Does this happen just when you shut it off and try to restart it immediately? If so it is trying to start against pressure that has not been given time to balance out. If this happens at any time the unit tries to start it could be low voltage or a hard starting compressor. They make hard starting kits for this purpose.

Carrier ac model 38ckc does not cool properly. Outside unit runs but air coming out of the top is cooler than the other units that we have. Just had a service replacing all the filters and coolant checked...

Air conditioner compressor will not start. When power is applied to the air conditioning outdoor unit the fan starts, but you hear a sound like the compressor is trying to start, "UGGG"..., for about 5 to 10 seconds and then all you hear is the outdoor condenser fan run. The compressor is locked and will not start. What is happening is the compressor is trying to start, but because the compressor motor is locked it tries to start for a few seconds and then because of the high amperage being drawn goes off on internal overload. The internal overload protects the compressor windings from overheating and burning up. I see this many times during the start of the air conditioning season. Some compressors just have a hard time starting after sitting all winter long. Some compressors are locked up so bad that I can not start them and must tell my customer that they need a new compressor . Many times I can get the compressor started again without having to buy a new compressor by using the device called, "Super-Boost." I keep two or three of these on the truck. They have saved many of my customers from having to buy new compressor

24ABR348A0031010 compressor starts then stops. Carrier 4 ton R22 unit. Worked great, then fan runs all the time. Compressor will start for less than a minute, then stop. Basically compressor will not stay...

Hello RR Hard start can't hurt BUT dosen't sound like the problem.Do you have a scroll compressor? They don't need a kit.Does it start every time?It could be short cycling on LOW PRESSURE SWITCH.If the unit is (pumping down) during the run time you have a restriction in the system.Make sure the service valves are open ,do you have a filter dryer colgging up or a bad TXV valve also could cause short run times.20-30 PSI the switch cuts out.

Looking for a parts list/owners manual for an old carrier AC unit. Model #38 REO 36 300. Any idea?

Follow this link to the search page for the Unit need need literature on. If you want to change models (i.e. from the 38BR to the 38RE, both of which you list in your question), just enter the 1st 3-4 characters in the search box. this link is for the 38RE. Good luck!

When unit starts the condensor fan only comes, not compressor

You need a new fan motor and the correct capacitors for your sydtem I think they are 35 or 45 5 cap. Try a hard start kit on compressor. Are you sure you have the cap wired correctly?Russ

My Carrier compressor model 38BRC060360 is getting loud. Does that mean it is going to fail? Thank you.

when you say "getting loud" is this only on start up or when the unit is operating? If it is on start up it could be a problem with the starting components, or with the time delay not allowing enough time to equalize on the off cycle. during operation it could be that the charge is incorrect, as the compressors are cooled by the suction gasses returning to the compressor, over or undercharge could cause excessive noise. It could be your mounts that hold the compressor to the case as well, there is not sure way to tell if it is getting ready to "go out" without performing regular megaohmmeter checks, and this process must be started when the unit is new, and checked periodically over its life.

Be sure that the starting capacitor is good. If the compressor is stuck up the starter power pack may help but sometimes it fail.

Carrier model# 38BRBO36300. Compessor tries to start but trips out. Already changed the capacitor.

If it trips after trying to start....sounds like you need a compressor. Is this system metered by a txv?If so you may try a hard start kit.
