My child's Leapster will not play all of his cartridges but will play the software that was installed on the system.

I have the same problem. The Leapster will not recognize the cartridges anymore. It is less than a year old.

my cartridges just aren't recognized anymore by the device? Just stopped working in the middle of a game. Tried all the troubleshooting tricks in the book and no luck. Only in use for 5 days
