Mitsumi floppy drive read issue

I'm having the same issue. I put known good floppy disks in and it keeps telling me the disk is not formatted . I've tried this on three computers , two with XP and one with Vista.

It's not a dust issue , it's right out of the box. New . I've had it for several months but never needed to use it until now .

Having a thumb drive isn't the issue , the reason I have a portable floppy drive is to retrieve data from a multitude of floppies I have .

Then unfortunately your drive is faulty. Have you tried spraying a little compressed air inside to shake around the dust? Otherwise if you are without warranty then you will either have to get a new drive, OR, start using USB thumbdrives which are a lot more economical these days.

Floppy disk drive is just sitting humming,i'm trying to get some photos from it to my deskop

Probably having trouble reading the disk. Try another disk to make sure the drive didn't croak. Or you may have a corrupted disk. Floppy disks are notoriously unreliable. Hopefully you can put the pix on a different disk and try again.

If all you did was "select all" nothing is gonna happen. You have to move the files by drag and drop or "copy to." Computers are sophisticated idiots. You have to tell 'em what to do.

ITS NOT READING TE FLOPPY DISK

Try the floppy-disk in another computer.
If it can be read, the floppy-disk is fine, and your disk-drive needs to be replaced.

I am now unable to access a floppy disk that I had been able to access for years. I now get an error message that tells me the disk has no ID address mark. How do I fix this?

Try changing the stting switch on the disk. I think it is for formatting or something like that. Try moving it to the opposite direction and then put it in your computer again ;) Good Luck

Asking to format not reading floppies

I can tell you just what I told someone else with the same problem a minute ago. Your computer doesn't support the floppy format you saved the data on the disk with. All you can really do is try putting the disk in every computer you can find until one of them reads it. So, basically, there may not be much you can do. Personally, I hate removable disks. I have that same problem with CDs all the time.
Well, good luck.

Won't read disks

Hey Rorel,

The issue could be either the floppy drive or the disk. If you have another computer with a floppy drive or know someone that does try using the disk on their drive. If the drive cannot read the disk then the disk is bad. If it ok the external floppy drive could be bad. Keep me posted.

Thanks,

Floopy drive

Sounds like you have a bad floppy drive. If you are unable to read a disk and it wants to format it so it can read it try letting it format a floppy with no data on it or with floppy you don't care about. If it can format and you can read and write to it, then bad disks. If not then you know you have a bad floppy drive. Replace and enjoy.
