Frigidaire frs26r4 fan not working

I have a frigidaire side by side that I purchased new 3 years ago. Recently there was a power outage and surge in our area which tripped a few breakers in the house. Once power was restored, the fridge had stopped working properly.
The rear fan and compressor will start. I cleaned everything from bottom to top and I removed the freezer panel to expose the 2nd fan. This fan will not start. When I checked the harness for power, I have proper voltage until I plug the fan back into the harness. The bottom of the freezer is cold...the top is not. I initially noticed the problem when I saw water leaking down the front of the ice maker in the door. The fridge was unplugged for two weeks and I just plugged it back in...still the same.
Any advice or direction would be greatly appreciated.

Ok I know it seems the most intelligent thing to do is to replace the fan...did it...nothing. Now as of a few minutes ago, I have nothing but about 2 volts AC coming into the wire harness that the fan/defrost thermo/defrost heater plug into. There is frost accumulating which makes sense considering the defrost thermo/heater have no power supplied. Where else should I look for voltage loss or presence...I am not sure what comes before this wire harness...is there some relay or something?

  • oneinnothing Jun 05, 2008

I had replaced the fan previously but failed to mention. There is now no power in the wire harness at all. Any suggestions where to look from here?

  • oneinnothing Jun 05, 2008

Any way to test to see if it is in fact the control box?

  • oneinnothing Jun 05, 2008

Ok...upon further investigation, I found the ADC fried. Completely black where the harness plugs in to the board. Does this box control these functions? The evaporator fan/defrost thermo/ice maker/and defrost heater?

Thanks everyone. Purchased a new ADC box and ALL is well.

As the lower part of the fridge is cooling fine so it is the the compressor. it is the fan which need to be replaced.

Hi,,
With a surge there is always the chance that you burn out the wiring harness control box. The problem s are parts of system not working.

Please follow next link and you will see the scematics for your machine as well as parts list and price.

This should not be to hard to fix.

Good luck

Did you check the temperature setting control knob it may have been hit accidentally and changed the setting.
Have you vacuumed out the condenser coils usually underneath or behind the fridge. When these coils get clogged with dust, lint, hair or whatever the gas cannot condense back to liquid due to heat buildup and will not cool things inside.

So if your voltage changes with the fan plugged in, it would seem that your fan is blown and you need a replacement. This fan is needed to properly cool the top. You should be able to order the part directly from Frigidaire or there are many online sites to choose from. If you need help with this, let me know or if you have any other questions, just ask, otherwise, good luck

See how much power is entering the control box and then see how much is leaving. If there is a significant drop, then your problem is the box.

There is also a fuse within this control box that you should check, you should be able to open the box to do this. Let me know if you experience any trouble while doing this

I would chech the components on the compressor. Take the cover off the compressor power terminals and inspect the relay for damage. The power outage is not a concern but the power surge could definately be the cause. hope this helps.

It impossible to tell via the internet without detailed descriptions of what you have tested, checked etc...However it sounds like maybe the compressor relay has failed if you are lucky, they are only around $50. If the compressor failed, then time for a new one probably if its more than 5 years old or if its a 2006 or newer.
