Hey emedic121,
The first thing you should do is to install the Olympus master software that came with your camera on your computer. Next you need to connect the camera to your computer using the supplied USB cord, and then you should start up the software by double left clicking on the software icon. Lastly you should download your image files from the camera to your computer, and then disconnect your camera from the computer. You can also use a memory card reader that plugs into a USB port on you computer and download your images using that. More detailed instructions start on page 35 of your manual. I hope this helps!

Consider NOT connecting the camera to the computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive. Or you can use any photo cataloging program.

How can I get the date to appear on the pictures on an olympus fe280 digital camera
By default Olympus cameras do not print the date on the images when they are downloaded to a PC. Olympus does not include this functionality because they feel that it detracts from image quality. There is a function of the camera called print order that you can set that it will print the date on the images but this is only if you take the card to a photo processing store. However if you use the Olympus Master software and print the images that you have previously transferred there is a check box in the print setting window that you can add the date and or time to the printed image.
