Graphics Card ?

Hi, i recently bought an Acer Aspire base unit, it has a 1.8ghz dual core cpu, 1gb of RAM, on board sis mirage 3 graphics etc, a link to its exact spec can be found at http://www.ebuyer.com/product/138612/show_product_specifications?spectype=extended I am aware that this is a very basic PC but i was wondering if you could tell me what would be a suitable graphics card for a system such as this as i would like to play games, and also if i am able to upgrade the CPU and to what type spec etc, from my very limited knowledge on this subject i know this is dependant on the motherboard, many thanks, Michael

You can use any PCI exspress x16 card. Maybe try an nVidia Gforce 8600GT or 8800GT.

Want faster processor for acer x1300 it base unit

Here are the spec on your pc if the information you gave me is correct. You can only upgrade the cpu to the socket you have. I think you would be better off adding more RAM and a better video card that isn't onboard. Processor / Chipset
  • Type AMD Athlon X2 7450 / 2.4 GHz
  • Number of Cores Dual-Core
  • 64-bit Computing Yes
  • CPU Qty 1.0
  • Max CPU Qty 1.0
  • Chipset Type NVIDIA GeForce 8200

My acer aspire m3641 just shows black screen

Is the computer booting? Fans spin? LED's blink? Sound? Have you tried another monitor? If so, check and reseat ALL cables. The specs indicate you have Integrated NVidia 7050 Graphics Adapter. You may need a aftermarket PCIe x16 Graphics Card to install in a open slot. Verify the cables are good and the monitor works on another computer first.

Seems out of date.runs slow bought from a friend they kept in closet seems to work ok i had to reboot it once it has ran ok since affraid to do to much dont want to crash it.

The best trick for speeding this thing up, killing the malware and any viruses is to use their (Make A Restoration Disc) Feature.
You will then have everything set up exactly the way it was the day your friend bought it.
Remember that this system has the slower AMD 3800+ so it won't be as fast as a dual core PC. When I get one of these in my shop I do 2 things to speed it up. First I add ram, 4 gigs total is best, then I turn off the onboard Video and add a new Video card with 512 megs of video ram or better.
Your PC has an AM2 socket, so a simple CPU upgrade will make your rig absolutely scream with speed. Just buy a new dual core AMD AM2 cpu. I will provide a link for you below.

No problem want to upgrade

There are lots of possibilities Rob. Endless, I would say. Looking at your specs you could spend up to $400 or $500 depending on what you want.

RAM - $50 to max out @ 4GB
Graphics - $100 to $200 for a good PCI-Express card w/512MB
Sound - $50 to $100 for a good 7.1 card
CPU - $100 for a Pentium Dual Core 2.7GHz with 800MHz FSB

These prices are from www.tigerdirect.com which would be a good place to start.

One thing to consider is the price of a new computer compared with an upgrade. Sometimes you are better off just getting a new one. Again, it depends on what you want...and can afford.

Good luck and thanks for using Fixya.

ACER with Dell 24" monitor

If it is a Dell Ultrasharp 2408WFP it can display a max of 1920x1200.

Mirage 3 is integrated graphics I believe and integrated graphics have no business running such HD resolutions such as 1920x1200. It will choke or refuse to do that resolution generally.

Other 24" Monitors can do a max of (1920x1080) which is basically 1080 HD resolution. You need to find which monitor you have, what its max resolution is, and then find what the max resolution is that your SiS Mirage 3 can output.

Upgrade compatibility continued

hiya

as this pc is skt 775 and has dual core support then it is quite likely that the e5200 will work but may need a bios update to support this cpu...

just goto dells site and choose the pc u have and select drivers then download the lastest bios, transfer it to the dell pc run it as its a self extractor system will reboot perform the update then bobs ya uncle.......pop in new cpu and hey presto cheapo ugrado

#and as for the graphics card you will need to accertain which pcie version u have as most dell pc's only have pcie v1 so wont be able to handle the newer gpu's on the market.......

hope this helps

Disabling onboard video on Acer aspire m1640

you cannot dissable the on-board graphics in the bios, in the graphic options you must choose which port you want to use, if you have a pci express card then chose pci as the primary graphics, press ok then F10 your pc will reboot and the on-board vga won't load up in windows

good luck
