Dlink not working on my computer that receives signal

My daughter reformatted one of our computers. I have installed the drivers and can see dlink in the connections. It shows dlink under network connections and says that it is unavailable. I can't figure out how to fix this. Help!

    Ceezer,

Thank you for your suggestion. I did get it working. I tried to delete the problem, but I could not find a way to do that. On the computer receiving the wireless connection- when you click on the computers in the bottom right corner it gave you ways to connect. I had chosen belkin and something else, but when it was changed to default it then worked. I had also unplugged the router and reset prior to that so it may be what made it work. Sorry I don't know this technical stuff.

Is this wired or wireless? If wireless, are you sure there isn't any WEP or WPA security enabled?

Also, you may want to reset it by unplugging the router, waiting 20 seconds and plugging it back in

Visible & unavailable means that the wireless security settings are not the same on the recently formatted computer, as on the rest of the network.
Open the wireless configuration for any computer that can connect to the network and copy the security settings (wep or higher) to the unconnecting pc
OR
connect to the router by cable from the non-connecting pc, use the web interface at http://192.168.0.1 to read the security settings, and copy the settings to the unconnecting pc

then it will connect

Hi,
It is pretty strange that only one PC is not able to find and connect to the network. All I can do is give you a few suggestions to check the Network and the PC Settings.
-The SSID Broadcast and DHCP Server should be ON from the router, so that the network/ router would be visible to all the nearby machines and could assign IP automatically.
- Try to move the PC closer to the router and see if it can find the signal (the PC wi-fi card may not be power enough to receive the signals)
- Make sure that there are no obstacles such as concrete walls, metal cabinets between the router and PC. This reduces the signals and the PC fails to recognize them. Based on my on-site experience, I suggest that you may relocate the router to another location depending upon your network environment. It has always helped me a great deal. Placing the router at the desk level, avoiding obstacles such as concrete pillars, walls, steel cabinets etc in the signal path have remarkable effect on range and overall performance of the network.
- Change the LAN settings of the PC to defaults.

Hope it helps! Good Luck! Thanks for using Fixya!

Are you trying to set up the router.
You can do it manually without the CD.
Make sure that your computer is able to go online through the modem.
If your computer is not able to go online through the modem then you will need to call ISP first.
If your computer is able to go online through the modem
then you need to connect the computer to the router and the modem to the router.
open the set up page of the router and change the settings of the router according to the ISP.

Internet connection fails through DLink router

Some ISPs (Internet Service Providers) require that you "register" the 'MAC' (not an Apple --> Media Acquisition Control) address of the network-adapter of your computer (or router) with the ISP,
before the ISP will allow your computer (or router) to be provisioned.

Your router has a different MAC-address than your computer.
So, your computer works with its "registered" MAC-address,
but your router cannot connect with its "unregistered" MAC-address.

Access the web-server inside the router, and click the 'Clone MAC-address' button, and restart the router.

Then, the router will send the MAC-address of your computer, rather than its own MAC-address, to your ISP.

Connecting Dlink DI-514 with my another 3com router (wireless)

No, the router requires an Ethernet cable be plugged into the back of it to receive its Internet signal.

As far as I'm aware there are no consumer-grade routers that will pick up a wireless signal from another router and use that as the Internet source.

Sorry you didn't get the answer you were after. :-\
