You will need to update the drivers on the computer for the docking station. It will be the windows seven drivers or lack of them that is causing a failure to remap the usb ports that the wireless dongle is plugged into.
I think you really need to boot from a boot disk (windows xp - vista - 7) for your operating system - and attempt a repair from there. Your computers have different motherboards and parts.. windows installed drivers for them are not close enough.
I have had success in xp by doing this: before removing drive from old computer - you go into device manager and remove everything - drives, video card, mother board last and leave keyboard and mouse .. so you can shut it down .. then install into new machine and it finds most everything and then you install your drivers there.
windows xp info. go to start, control panel, systems, hardware, device manger, click on x at keyboard see your keyboard there right click delete keyboard shut down and reboot leave keyboard plugged in...and it should find and reload the keyboard.
if this does not fix the problem..shutdown the computer unplug the keyboard and mouse...reboot the computer and let load all the way...I know you can't do nothing about signing in or working on it but let load all the way after finished loading push button to power it off are unplug it...then replug the keyboard and mouse and boot it back up should fix it...
If it is a USB then it should work with any keyboard and mouse. When you say it shuts off after XP loading screen, does the machine power off? have you tried unplugging the mouse and keybaord and let Windows load?
If you have got a usb mouse plug it into your computer then go to control panel>system>hardware>device manager and go to pointing devices. Right click on the + sign next to keyboard and touchpad, click on uninstall. Then reboot your machine, take the usb mouse out. Windows will reload the correct drivers for the keyboard and touchpad as new hardware and your problem should be resolved.
Your problem has nothing to do with the Operating System (Vista), it has something to do with the brand of your computer. I have similar problem before, I have Vista (Dell), but the time I connected another Vista (Sony Vaio), everything worked correctly.
This is what you need to do:
1. You have to make sure that you are using a standard USB keyboard and mouse.
2. Connect first the keyboard and mouse directly to the Vista computer to see if the USB ports of your computer are working properly.
3. You may power cycle the KVM switch by disconnecting it from the computers (including the keyboard and mouse) and leave it disconnected for 2 minutes.
4. Reconnect everything after two minutes and then reboot the computers.
5. Try using different USB keyboard if problem exist after power cycling the KVM switch.
