IPhone GMail stopped working

I have been using Gmail on iphone for several months with no problem -yesterday suddenly could no longer receive messages. I can see that "x number of X number of messages are downloading" that disappears quickly - but no messages download. I deleted account and re-add; tried adding as "Other" and used iMap setting and also tried re-adding with pre-loaded gmail settings. As of now, for In Box I see in screen "Load 25 more messages, 405 messages total" but when I touch to click nothing happens... HELP!!!
