The original remote has an infrared sensor that you point to the tv "looks like a led except it see through" it has become defective and must be changed, some service shops may carry some, also try Radio Shack.
is this the original remote for this tv? if not then this is more than likely your problem. some remotes, however the same brand remotes, do not work with different model tv's. try using an universal remote or finding the original remote on ebay or possibly the net.
The problem with universal remotes is that they can not fully replace the original, for example, on my remote you may turn on txt but can not turn it off, the only way is to turn off TV, and turn it on. I was lucky :) You must find the original remote, or maybe some other universal in
which you may have this option, you will not know until you try. Universal remote only a part meets the
requirements, I have not had the opportunity to find a universal remote that
completely replaced the original.
What brand is your universal remote? Best thing would be to go on the universal remote manufactures website and they should have a list of codes for models based on what model number your universal remote is. Then you can look up possible codes for your tv found in the users manual (which you can print from online) and it gives you like 5-7 codes that you try and will give you instructions on how to enter the code and save that code to your remote. I hope that helps.
It seems that the SAP, no audio, distorted audio is a common problem for some RCA units even with the use of the original remote and in your case made more difficult with a replacement remote.
Two things you can try:
1. Some say that unplugging the TV set for a long time, a couple of hours at least will do a hard/system reset on the microcontroller inside the TV hopefully resetting set-up the audio (including SAP) to default;
2. contact Customer Support at Thomson and explain your problem;
3. Try going a google on "RCA SAP manual reset"; or
4. Buy an original remote and not another replacement.
Hope this work out for you and give you some ideas. Pls post again how things turn up. Good luck and kind regards.
If you have tried the manual search and found mone that will operate the set, then you may have to get an original replacement. You can find an original replacement at this link. http://www.remotes.com/remotes/servlet/rs?a=gmi&smodel=CF2791&brand_pn=AKAI_CF2791&mode=large&uid=11655939754370 If you try to use a universal remote, you will not be able to use special functions such as input, menu ect. Good Luck
