The actual installation of a operating system isn't that hard at all, the biggest thing to remember is you need to find out if there are drivers available (for the operating system) for the laptop model you are thinking of getting....
write back and let us know which model and manufacturer you are considering
the cost?..well, windows XP, around $100; Linux, generally free.....

Irregardless of where and what operating system you buy and install, you still have to make sure the system drivers for the different components such as motherboard devices are compatible with the operating system you install....there are many computers that only have Vista drivers available, and XP will not work properly on those computers...

How can i install windows xp on laptop CQ60-104TU without flushing the BIOS

When your operating system stops working correctly, you might need to re-install it. In many cases, when you continue operating the same computer for years, installing and un-installing programs over and over again, sometimes certain operating system files don't work as well as they once did. When that happens, you can also start a re-installation of your operating system. If you use the same operating system for a number of years, it is often helpful to re-install the system software every now and then.

1. Put the original CD or DVD for the operating system in your CD or DVD drive.

2. Shut down your computer and restart the computer. Boot from the CD, if your system asks. This will start the installation process and will pause when a blue installation screen appears.

3. As the screen directs, press the "Enter" key to continue the installation process.

4. Press the "F8" key to continue the installation, agreeing with the Windows Operating System licensing agreement.

5. Press the "R" key on the next screen to attempt the repair process. This process will attempt to re-install all the operating system files that are on the installation disk without bothering any of the customization that you have done to your operating system. This process may take a few hours to complete, but when it completes, you should have Windows XP re-installed and working on your laptop.

I hope you find it very helpful. Best regards.

Hi I want to format my laptop pavilion dv6 just C drive without losing my data in other drives using backup drive? thank's

You cannot format c drive while windows is running. If your operating system is in c drive then you need an operating system disk to reinstall and while doing this you will be asked to format your c drive If you want to format c drive without loosing data then simply transfer your data to another drive on your computer and use operating system disk to bot your computer Wait for the setup files to load and choose fresh installation option You will be asked to choose the drive to install OS and you can select c drive Then you will be available with an option to format c drive and install OS It will not effect other drives on e computer and your data is safe After installation of OS you can browse through other drives to retrieve your data. Hope this helps or you can ask for clarification if you need Thanks

How do I erase my hard drive on a IBM T30 and reload the operating system and drivers.

Get an install disk for the operating system you wish to install (Make sure your computer is able to handle that operating system first), then put the disk in and boot to the disk. If your computer is not set up to boot to disk first then you will have to go into the BIOS, usually F2 of F12 on boot (whatever says press to enter setup), then change the boot settings from there.

Once you are inside the installer for that Operating System, it will give you an option to erase the hard drive you are wanting to install the operating system on, and restart new. Just so you are aware, this will reformat and ERASE EVERYTHING on that hard drive, so make sure that you have anything you want saved backed up somewhere else.

Once that is done, continue installing the operating system and then your hard drive will be erased, and the operating system will be reinstalled.

If you were just looking to erase a hard drive, then you can go to my computer, then right-click the hard drive you want to erase, then click format. THIS WILL ERASE EVERYTHING!

Hope this helps!

How do I re-install the operating system for eee pc900hd with no disc or internial disc drive?

Would have liked to have a little bit more information from you ;)
  • What operating system do you have installed?
  • What operating system do you want installed?
If you are willing to try a non MS windows operating system, here is a solution; go to this page:

http://www.ubuntu.com/netbook/get-ubuntu/download

Click on the Start Download button. While downloading, have a look at option 2 "Create a USB drive". Click the appropriate radio button (Win, Mac, Ubuntu), then click the "Show me" button for instructions.

Using this option, you do not need a disc drive, just a USB stick. This software is free so you do not need to purchase a new Windows (or pirate a windows copy).

I use this operating system myself on all my computers and I am very happy with it.

Hope this helps ;)

My laptop is an acer computer and i forgot my password and locked myself out.

Please clarify, What is the Operating System installed on the computer? The password reset or recovery depends on the operating system installed. Please let me know, whether it's windows xp or windows vista or windows 7. Windows xp's password reset method will be the easiest, while windows vista's and windows 7's are more or less similar, only with different tools.

Thanks and awaiting.

Its running to slow and i want to clean the whole pc out as in reset as if new

You can erase everything off the computer (files, OS, etc) by downloading a program that wipes your hard drive clean. I recommend using Dukes Boot and Nuke software. It is a no-cost virus-free software that works.
Warning! It will delete your operating system (Windows, Mac, Linux, etc.) Without it, you cannot use the computer.
MAKE SURE YOU HAVE AN OPERATING SYSTEM DISC AT HAND WHEN DOING THIS! (WINDOWS OR MAC)

How far can it be upgraded,eg.ram,graphics,processor.etc

With a laptop computer, nearly everything is integrated onto the system board. This means there's very little you can do to upgrade the computer beyond adding additional RAM. You can also install a larger hard drive, but that's not really an upgrade. Replacing the processor wouldn't be worth the cost and effort as it wouldn't make a noticeable difference in your computer's operation.

The best thing to do if you are really unhappy with your current system's performance is to install as much RAM as it can take. Other than that, put your money into a replacement computer that already has the specs you're looking for.

When starting computer it shows invalid system disc

I presume that recovery disc is for that computer... in that case check that the disc is spotlessly clean and also if i remember right that is a two disc set so make sure you are putting disc one in first
