The actual installation of a operating system isn't that hard at all, the biggest thing to remember is you need to find out if there are drivers available (for the operating system) for the laptop model you are thinking of getting....
write back and let us know which model and manufacturer you are considering
the cost?..well, windows XP, around $100; Linux, generally free.....

Irregardless of where and what operating system you buy and install, you still have to make sure the system drivers for the different components such as motherboard devices are compatible with the operating system you install....there are many computers that only have Vista drivers available, and XP will not work properly on those computers...

I picked up a computer at a yard sale, and the operating system isn't good. I don't have another one, and I can't afford to buy one it's Windows 7, can anyone help? And tell me what I can do.

If you're looking for a operating system to run and it's an older computer i'd recommend using a freeware like ubuntu. It's a distro of Linux but easy to pick up and web browse etc. if you burn the disc you can also try it free without installing prior to fully commiting.

How much does Mountain Lion cost to download?

You can download Mountain Lion by going to the Apple Store. It costs $20 to get.

However, if you purchased your new computer after June 11, 2012 (which your question seems to indicate you did) then it will not cost you anything and will be completely free.

Go to this webpage and enter in your details to get your free copy.

How can i install windows xp on laptop CQ60-104TU without flushing the BIOS

When your operating system stops working correctly, you might need to re-install it. In many cases, when you continue operating the same computer for years, installing and un-installing programs over and over again, sometimes certain operating system files don't work as well as they once did. When that happens, you can also start a re-installation of your operating system. If you use the same operating system for a number of years, it is often helpful to re-install the system software every now and then.

1. Put the original CD or DVD for the operating system in your CD or DVD drive.

2. Shut down your computer and restart the computer. Boot from the CD, if your system asks. This will start the installation process and will pause when a blue installation screen appears.

3. As the screen directs, press the "Enter" key to continue the installation process.

4. Press the "F8" key to continue the installation, agreeing with the Windows Operating System licensing agreement.

5. Press the "R" key on the next screen to attempt the repair process. This process will attempt to re-install all the operating system files that are on the installation disk without bothering any of the customization that you have done to your operating system. This process may take a few hours to complete, but when it completes, you should have Windows XP re-installed and working on your laptop.

I hope you find it very helpful. Best regards.

Can i download windows xp home addition for free

Operating system installation software is not downloadable, but if you purchased your system with an original version of Win XP Home from Dell for instance, they will send you a one-time complete set of all the software and operating system disks to restore your system. I believe HP does this as well. You can do this online at Dell that I know of as I did this myself and received all new disks without cost.

I can't find drivers

We can't help without knowing who made the computer, what operating system you are installing and what devices you are having trouble with. Typically you have to download drivers from the manufacturer website for the operating system you are using. If you are upgrading your computer to a new operating system and it is not one supported by the computer manufacture for that model computer you will have to identify each device and search their site for compatible drivers with the operating system you are trying to use.

I'm not clear what you are looking for here. Windows 98 will run just fine as a stand-alone system, without a modem. If you do desire to install a modem, what you get will be more a function of the motherboard and what it will accept. Chances are, any PCI modem will fit a system that is running Win98, but I don't know that with certainty without more information from you. The challenge you may run into is finding one with drivers for that operating system, since it is 11 years old.
