Question about Sony Handycam DCR-DVD203 DVD Camcorder

Lens Cover will not open

Recently, my lens cover will not open. I've tried plugging it in, resetting it and manually opening but nothing works. Any suggestions?? We have experienced the same problem with our Sony DCR-DVD203. The camera was working fine one moment and has not been abused, but now the lens cover will not open.

You have tried manually opening it, you say? How were you doing this and why didn't it work? Is there an error message coming up on the camera at all? We are talking about a Sony Handycam correct? or what camera are we talking about because your description of the problem seems to be two different things. Please update me on this and answer my questions and I will see what you can try that you haven't done already.

If this is a regular digital camera and not a video camcorder, then try to gently bump it with the palm of your hand as either there is some foreign material within the lens area or possibly the gears are off or your motor is bad and the bumping will usually fix the first two

you may also try blowing compressed air or blowing by mouth to get any material out.

The lamp cover light is blinking then projectoe gose off

hi,
There is two possibilty for this problem one is the lamp cover is not properly placed and the second one is the lamp has reached end of its usful life span.
First of all check the lap cover is propely placed or not. if its ok then try to reset the lamp hour.
For that press the menu button and select setup and then select Lamp setting and reset the lamp. It is reccomented that the lamp reset should only be don after replacing the lamp.
OK

Lens Cover Won't Open

NO Super glue this can be fixed pretty easily to get fixed. most local shops will not charge you to much to fix it maybe 15 to 20 at the most i figure. or you can remove the lens cover by putting a very small flat head screw driver on the side of the lens and with the camera off pull away from the camera and it should just pop off. Superglue if you get it on the lens will rune the whole thing. Just tiring to help out . I repair lens shutters all the time they are just mechanical parts nothing really special about them.

Lens cover stuck open

I recently had the lens cover stick partly open.  There are 4 segments to the lens cover, and if we number them from the top, number 2 was not closing.
I gently flicked the segments a few times, in case there was a grain of dirt causing it to stick (although the camera has never been in a dirty or dusty environment).  This caused the lens cover to close fully each time, but now it would not open fully, segment 1 would not open, although it would stay open if moved by finger.
Anyway, after a bit of fiddling, I got it working properly again.  The way that the lens cover appears to work is that only segments 2 and 3 are pushed open or shut by springs, segments 1 and 4 are pushed open and shut by tiny tabs that catch on segments 2 and 3.  If the segments somehow get pushed out of alignment, then they either bind (causing the cover not to shut), or they get disconnected (causing the cover not to open fully.
Now I am not sure exactly what I did to get the mechanism form the stuck open state to the not opening state, but from there the way to fix it is to:
-With the lens open...
- Hold segment 2 in the closed position with firm finger pressure (which will tend to push it towards the lens).
- Push segment 1 towards the open position until you can see that it has cleared the edge of segment 2.
- Lift segment 2 way from the lens so that it will rub past segment 1 as you...
- Move segment 1 to the open position.
- Repeat if necessary to get the technique right.

I can't provide any guarantees, and I am not about to repeat the excercise on my camera, but it was a lot easier than sending it off for repair.

No startup on lens cover opening

well the problem it´s on the switch that turns on the camera that is located under the lens cover.... this swith is glued to the front cover and lots of times gets unglued, u need to remove the lens cover by removing 2 screws on the bottom part of the lens cover, after that just pull the switch slowly and glue it. don´t use 3 seconds glue use a more viscose one. good luck

Lens cover

I know this is an old post, but for those who want to fix it themselves: try blowing lots of compressed air around the open lens shutter to clean the mechanism. Or use a hair dryer for a few seconds (don't want to heat up the camera). Also with the lens barrel extended and pointed downward, tap the lens barrel with a pencil while you extend and retract the lens by powering the camera on and off. A grain of sand in the mechanism is usually the culprit, and you want to try to dislodge it.

You can open it up, but only as a very last resort. The above procedures usually work if you try them enough. But for those particularly nasty stuck mechanisms, here's an example repair on a Canon Powershot A400 (do this at your own risk):

Lens will not come out of camera

There is a workaround for this problem, when the lens cover is open press down on the area of the lens cover on the "s" of Olympus. This can operate the switch that opens the lens etc. The long term fix is to remove the lens cover by removing the 2 screws at the base of the lens cover, take the lens cover off and gently clean around the switch which is behind the "s" of Olympus when the cover is on. I found that the grease/oil Olympus had used on the switch attracted dust etc and by cleaning this off the camera began working. Be careful when taking the lens cover off, there is also a very small metal plate that separates from the lens cover - don't lose it.

Lens Cover will not open or close

OMG! I had the same issue and blew on the lens. To easy to be true, but it worked! I thought maybe it was a fluke, so I turned the camcorder on and off several times, and it worked every time! Sure beats the $341 Sony was going to charge to fix it!!!!
