I think I get a "bug" or "animal" in my unit every once in a while, that gets caught in the fan and thrown around for a few minutes. It makes a clunking noise, as you say. Maybe???

1994 toyota corolla has loud clunking throughout car.

Look for missing rubber parts around where that attach points are for the sway bar. Grab the sway bar and try to move it in any direction. If it moves then some rubber parts need replacing. There are rubber parts in the shock tower too. Age shrinks these parts, so look there too. Bearings don't make a clunking type noise, more of a grinding noise. To check a bearing. jack up one side till the tire turns freely. Grab the tire at the top and push and pull it towards you. Excessive play suggests a bearing is worn. Spin the tire. If it rolls slowly and stops abruptly , it's bearing time.

Makes clunking noise

if the unit is sort of new and this is a loud popping (snap) noise, this is a problem with many models and manufacturers. It is a plastic part expanding and contracting during the self-defrost cycle. There is no fix, it is a common "defect" which manufacturers can't or won't rectify. The noise is loud enough to hear in other parts of the house.Good news is mine stopped making noise after about 6 months. It does not affect the performance of the unit. If this is not a newer model, this is most likely not the problem. Good luck

1993 cutlass a/c making loud noise

air compressor clutch bearing is failing - repair if too costly a rebuilt unit installed by yourself plus Pro - one in a can recharge of freon will be needed. If above not do able - remove main serpetine drive belt + measure and by trial and error acquire Shorter Belt to Fit everything without going around Air Conditioner pulley . Noise will be gone but no Air Cond. and this is cheapest route but getting right shorter belt Length is Time consuming .

We have an 11 year old fisher-paykel fridge .For past 6 months several times a day it makes a loud knocking noise

If this noise happens when the compressor turns on and shuts off it is called a compressor knock. All the internal workings of the compressor are supported by springs, over time the springs wear out and become weak. When the compressor stops or starts the tourq causes the internal parts to hit aginst the casing of the compressor. Sounds like a clunk clunk clunk noise. If you can deal with the noise do not go out and replace the compressor cause it will work just fine like that.

Every 20 mins or so the fride--a11 yr old

is it shutting off when it makes that clunking noise? if so, thats the compressor making the noise. the motor inside the shell casing, which is suspended on four springs, is banging agasint the shell casing because one of those springs has stretched or broken. You need to replace compressor. if its been happening for a while, i would start looking for a new model. if its more recent, and not very loud, you haver more time, but in either case, it could just cease up at any time. to hgave your compressor replaced, and unless your an HVAC tech you should most assuredly NOT do it yourself, its quite expensive, at or near the cost of buying a new one.

Kenmore fridge, about 8 years old, making noise

The compressor on your fridge is mounted on rubber grametts and inside the dome the internal parts the do the pumping of the refrigerant are mounted on springs. When a compressor gets old some people complain about two much vibrating, this could be the rubber grommets the support the compressor. When one of the support springs inside the compressor is broken it will have a distinct rapping sound when the compressor shuts off. There isn`t anything you can do about this, short of replacing the compressor. It will eventually get worse untill something is seriously broken inside the compressor and the compressor will die. You may want to consider replacing the compressor now or purchase a new fridge. You will need to consider the cost of both and the age of the fridge" Is it worth repairing?". You can actualy find a repair company in your area from this site if you like, and compare the costs.I hope I have helped explained the problem well enough for you. I will help you as much as I can.
