Question about SanDisk Sansa E280 MP3 Player

Broken Sansa e280r screen

I dropped my laptop on my mp3 player and broke the display screen. The outside plastic case (that covers the inside screen) is cracked and unfortunately the inside screen is cracked as well and my display is for the most part unreadable. i received this mp3 player as a Christmas gift in 2007 and i was wondering if it could be repaired. or do i just need to buy another one and trash this one.

thanks ----- jd.watson@trinitywnc.com

The same thing happened to me, I've had to deal with the screen being white, and not being able to read anything on it.

Hey wordjay,

While the LCD display for many MP3 players may be replaceable, in some cases the availability and cost of doing so might make repairs uneconomical.

I would first suggest checking with the manufacturer of the MP3 player (SanDisk) to see if the screen is sold as an individual component or as part of an assembly - this can often give you a good idea of how much repairs may cost, before any labor charges are factored in. Keep in mind that not all manufacturers may offer replacement parts for their LCD screens if the model has been discontinued or is currently subject to a recall.

Once you've gotten a good idea how much replacement parts may cost, you may wish to then speak with your local repair facility for more information regarding any potential installation charges.

If you are still unsure how to proceed, remember that you can always bring your MP3 player into a Geek Squad® agent at your local Best Buy™ store for further assistance.

Hope this helps you out.

Sincerely,
Aaron

The plastic screen isn't broken, but when I turn it on, it appears as broken.

if there are no visible marks or cracks on the plastic case itself then it sounds like the LCD screen behind the plastic protective screen is cracked or damaged (especially if its been dropped, or had a lot of pressure put on it e.g. left in a pocket when sitting down, heavy object on it), if its new i would consider taking it back with the receipt for a replacement.

otherwise it will need someone with some repair skills to replace the screen.

E270 displays key locked even when the latch is moved to unlock position.

I had the same problem with my e250 a few months back. In my case it turned out that one of the thin plastic arms on the inside of the switch had broken off. Going one way it would lock, but going the other way it wouldn't do anything, leaving it locked.

If you want to risk it, this is what I did, to the best of my recollection.

Take off the four screws on the back of the case. With a little careful prying, you can detach the plastic front frame and the metal case back. Look at the switch at the top of the case. If it's in the locked position, slide it to the other position. If there's a piece of broken plastic, shake it out of there. Reassemble the case. I didn't bother replacing the four screws, since I carry the Sansa inside a case/beltclip. After that, it's a matter of remembering not to lock the Sansa when I'm listening to it.

If it's not a mechanical problem, then I'm stumped.

Sansa e280r wont connect with laptop

On your Sansa, go to "Settings," then "System Settings," then USB Mode, change the mode to MSC, then try it. If that doesn't work try the other modes just in case.
Hope this helps!

My sansa e260 needs help

Your screen is broken. Not the plastic on the outside, but the actual screen itself. I currently have the same problem. Unfortunately, I have not found anyone that sells replacements yet.
