Acer Aspire 3100 Boot errors and intermittent lock

Lost use of the network and about the same time got these boot errors:

Phoenix TrustedCore (tm) NB
Copyright 1985 - 2005

Phoenix Technologies Ltd

System BIOS Version V2.70

Bus: 06, Device: 02, Function: 00
Resource Conflict - PCI in slot 03
Bus: 06, Device: 04, Function: 01
Resource Conflict - PCI in slot 03
Bus: 06, Device: 04, Function: 02
Resource Conflict - PCI in slot 03
Bus: 06, Device: 04, Function: 03

It then says something like:

Press F1 or F2 etc....

I have tried going into the BIOS to see if I can assign the PCI resources manually, but the Phoenix BIOS has the most cut-down config options I have ever seen; it pretty much only allows one to decide what

to boot from.

Checking forums etc I have come accross others with similar problems and the advise is mostly that the MB needing replacement.

I did a restore from an image that was made a year ago and everything seemed fine for an hour (during which time it was only on the battery) . The next time I booted the PC the old POST error messages came up

I charged the battery - I still have the old POST error messages came up
but I have no problem with the network.

I should also mention that I have problem to the right of the keypad it gets really hot after a while.

Any help greatfully received.

I should also mention that I have problem to the right of the keypad it gets really hot after a while.

Ooops! Sorry that should have read to the leftof the keyboard.

I don't have a problem with the network any more, though still get the ERROR message at startup. And the computer is slow and HOT. Thanks for your suggestions, have tried the cleaning one but no change.

Am a bit wary about flashing the BIOS, it appears to be a PCI resouce conflict ERROR; is there no way to resolve this apart from BIOS settings? which I might add are none existant in this BIOS version, as it is designed to NOT allow the user access to those settings or any other relevant ones it seems.

I have read some horror stories with those who had similar problem to me flashing BIOS and getting a piece of junk at the end.

Again thanks very much for your time and help.

Try flashing the BIOS to the latest version.

Also, take a can of compressed air and blow out the dust and debris from the CPU air intake and exhaust vents (Go back and forth several time to try and dislodge compacted dust in the heatsink vents)

If the BIOS flash doesn't resolve then you most likely have a NIC failure. Since the NIC is integrated you can either replace the motherboard or get a PCMCIA or USB NIC to use and disable the integrated one in the BIOS (If possible)

SOURCE: my acer 5650 laptop shows

Sounds about right..........
If it goes no futher, try booting into safe mode by pressing f8, if not , put in your windows disc and attempt a REPAIR INSTALATION.

Google it, this is not the first option to repair, its like a full install but you loose no files

Im getting the ntldr is missing message on my acer aspire 3100 that i just bought from a friend. I have no idea on how to fix this

That is the NT Loader in win98 was boot.ini regardless the OS will not continue without it. You can simply place your OS CD in set your boot order in bios to boot from cdrom. Do a manual windows repair. This will re-install the missing boot loader.

Boot Acer 3100 Aspire. Shows NTLDR is missing Press any key to restart. Will just go to the same screen over and over. Will not boot at all. Do not have a boot disk.

Remove any 3.5" diskette from the A: drive.
Remove any CD from the CD/DVD drive.

If you still have the problem, then borrow a Windows XP disk.
Boot from it. Choose "repair", not "install".

If the disk-drive is "detected", then "repair" will attempt to fix any file-system errors.

If *NO* disk-drive is detected, your disk-drive has "died".

Acer aspire one - its died!!!

If it was just the hard drive, I would expect the video to come on and say something like "no boot device."
However, since you went through the steps here and see absolutely no video (even none on an external monitor), I would suspect a motherboard failure.
Be sure that when you hooked up an external monitor that you pushed the Fn key and the appropriate special function key (maybe F7) that switches between the laptop and external monitor. If you have done that (pushed the combination several times to switch displays), then you can be pretty certain your video card (if a separate card) may be bad.
I'm not really sure if this machine has a separate video card. The specs say it's a ATI Radeon Xpress 1100. This leads me to believe it may be a separate card.
If it's just the card that went bad, you can replace it. Otherwise, the motherboard will have to be replaced.
Good luck. You can do that, but if you're not confident, you best take the machine to a repair shop.

The aspire 3620 is not able to boot from removable disks or sticks, could any flashing of the bios help? My current version is Phoenix 1.06, and the manufacterer's version ist he same? Could I flash...

According to Acer's specifications for this particular notebook, the boot options do not allow for booting from external media, whether disks or thumb drives. The only options are local drive, cdrom/dvd, floppy devices and network boot. You can see for yourself here:

Also, Acer does not have an upgraded BIOS for this particular model. I'm sorry if it's not the news you were looking for.
