Question about Goldstar MA-2117W / B 1150 Watts Microwave Oven
Whenever i try to make microwave popcorn; the square metal thing on the inside right of the oven, behind the area where the light is; gets white hot and i can basically see what seems to be a light bulb or electrical short right through the metal. When it makes this bright light, it also makes a very loud buzzing sound and if i let it continue to run, i have seen smoke come from the metal piece on the wall. Obviously i don't let it run at all now that the smoke has started, have any of you heard of this before? I bought the microwave a long time ago and don't have the manual to check troubleshooting. It does the same thing whether i use the popcorn setting or just manually set it to run on high. Once in a great while i will get a bag that will pop without any problems, but it's like there's something in the bags that is metal i'm guessing?

You better be carefull my friend or you will start glowing in the dark!! LOL Just kidding. But I wont kid about how dangerous that metal cylinder can be with the holes in the top. Thats the magnatron. It has very high voltage going to it and you should never ever touch any wires going to it even if its unplugged as theres a capacitor in there that holds a charge for a time. f the oven is over several years old, Im sure the magnatron will cost more then a new oven, after you add labor and such. It just migfht be time to upgrade to a new microwave?? Good Luck
