You may be able to download an OSX operating system, but it will not be free, and if you computer is doing that, then you will not be able to get onto net. You will need to buy it at a mac specialist. If you have another computer try finding it in "limewire" this is a filesharing program, so be careful what you download as there are legal and illegal copies of stuff.

I do Mac, therefore I bought the disc. I believe it costs $129.00 now. A bargain when you consider what people are paying for an inferior Windows Vista operating system now days. If a hard drive dies or something else gets messed up I can re-install the Mac OS and be up and running again in an hour. It works and I don't have all of the Windows hassles.

When I turn on my laptop it goes to a blueish screen and a folder with a question mark in it begins flashing

Startup file corrupted. Try inserting gray disc 1 and repair disc permissions under disc utility and also select repair disc after that. Now go into system prefs, accounts, select your user name, select login items and highlight all the programs in the box. Then press delete as these programs are not needed to start up the computer. Your not deleting the programs-just preventing them from starting up when you first press the power button. Still nothing? Then re-install the operating system and that should fix it. Still nothing? Get a new hard drive and install new operating system on that. Still nothing? Well then old chap your fu.kd as you will need to repair the logic board or buy a new logic board.

My Powerbook G4 internal is almost full, which is why I was backing up a couple of days ago. I was removing various large programs I don't use. My Trash would no longer empty, I could not print and tried...

Take the RAM out and reinsert and see if that does anything. Install RAM you know that works into the two slots and see if that does anything.
Install disc 1 of the 2 gray discs and press the option key to boot from the disc-Then go into the disk utility section-then click on repair disc permissions-then click on repair hard drive disc and see if that does anything.

When I start up my MacBook it goes through the normal process, but then I only have a blank blue screen and there is no dashboard on the icons.

Corrupt startup files- cheap fix.
Logic board issues expensive fix.

1) Try removing RAM chips and reinserting snug.
2) Try installing disc 1 and repairing permissions.
3) Try re-installation of software OS.
4) If the above didn't work, then your fu.k.d old chap.

My apple laptop starts up but a file pops up and it has a question mark on it then a box pops up telling me to restart my computer but when i restart it it does the same thing again

This means the startup folder is either missing or corrupt. You need to use your install disc that came with your mac(or the new system install disc) and hold down the C key until you see the apple logo.
When you get to the install menu, you should see utilities at the top of the screen. Select the disc utility and select the hard drive and click the first aid menu and run the program.
Then just restart and you should be fixed.
If you can't do anything, then you either need to reformat and loose everything, or find someone that knows how to try to save your files.
