I have tried to use spell check on Word 2007, and it will not recognize misspelled works. How to I fix it?

  • tashiwangdu Jul 01, 2008

I can't get MS Word 2007 to recognize misspelled words. It will auto correct words found in its commonly misspelled words file but will not identify garblygook. I tried the check boxes in the tools menu, reinstalled the program, compared the registry with the same program on my laptop - 6 hours later - its still not working. The main dictionary file must be bad but I thought reinstalling the program would fix it. Anyone have a suggestion????

    Thanks!

Rename these keys: Start > Run > type regedit > press <Enter> > Navigate to the following keys and right click and rename them to:

A. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Proofing Tools\1.0old

and

B. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Outlookold (example for Outlook spell check) AND/OR HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Wordold (for Word spell check)

Reboot, Open Outlook, and Office will recreate them.

Hi,

Open MS Word and click on the Office logo in the top left hand corner, now click on word options and now click on the "Proofing" tab on the left - Now make sure your screen looks like the one below, if it doesn't put the ticks in the relevant boxes and click ok. Then restart word and type and it will correct as you type - If it doesn't then the Dictionaries are wrong, but we can sort that out.

Cheers

My Microsoft word 2007 does not have spell check. how can i get it??

This problem may be related to the installation of Word/Office 2007. Try the following:

- Close Word.
- Click "Start", and look for the Run button. Click it.
- Type 'Regedit.exe' without the quotes, and hit enter.
- Delete the following key/folder: KEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word.
- Reopen word. It should create new keys, which should reenable spell check.

WORD 2007: SHORTCUTS FOR SPELLCHECK

WORD 2007 TIP: HOW TO USE SHORTCUTS FOR SPELL-CHECK

Spell-check has been around for years; however, it just keeps getting better! Microsoft Office 2007 Spell-check is even more intuitive and easy-to-use. You'll find Spell-check by clicking on the Review Tab located on the Ribbon, and then select Spelling and Grammar from the Proofing Group. If you don't use Spell-check very often, you may have trouble remembering which Tab to click on (I know that I do).

As a trainer, I've learned that each individual works differently. That's why I like to present different methods of performing the same task, especially if it can save time and help a student work more efficiently.

I personally think it's much easier to simply press the F7 key to initiate Spell-check. That's because I favor keyboard shortcuts. Some students prefer to create customize toolbars with their favorite features. In Word 2007, you can't customize the Ribbon, however you can customize the Quick Access Toolbar:

1. Start MS Word 2007

2. Go to the Customize Quick Access Toolbar button
(It's located at the top left of the screen and it looks like a small arrow with a bar on top of it.)

3. Select Spelling & Grammar from the list.

4. You should see a Spelling & Grammar button appear on the Quick Access Toolbar.

5. The next time you want to use SpellCheck, just click on the new button you created.
Both of these shortcuts will save you time to help you work more efficiently!

Happy Computing!

Spell checker has defaulted from English to foreign language

Go to the Review Tab in Microsoft Word. Click on Set Language (fifth option from the left). Select English (United States).

Spell check windows xp home edition

The spell checker usually comes fro Microsoft Office. If you do not have Office or you have Office 2007 you can download Spell Checker For OE 2.1 from the Microsoft site. My guess is you found the spellcecker in Outlook Express is in French. Spell Checker For OE 2.1 is not a Microsoft product but it works well for outlook Express and is free.

INSTALLED MICROSOFT 2007 OFFICE & STUDENT IT ONLY SPELL CHECK IN

You can customize the installation. Put back your Microsoft 2007 Office then when the option menu showed, choose custom installation. Like that you will find option to use english or other language pack support.

Outlook Express spell check

Outlook express does not have its own spell checker, it relies on the one installed with MS Office. Unfortunately the one that comes with Office 2007 is no longer compatible with Outlook. At present there is no solution except to install third party spell ckeck software.

Office Home and Student 2007 @ $150

Where did you purchase the software from? Many stores as well as larger online retailers offer price protection, usually for 30 days. You will have to contact they retailer directly to ask about their policies.

Also, in which specific programs are you attempting to use spell check? Office 2007 does include dictionaries for spell checking, but they are not compatible with Outlook Express. Spell checking should be available within the Office 2007 applications. If it is not, go to your Control Panel --> Add/Remove Programs and Modify your Office 2007 installation. You will need to install the English proofing tools.

Let me know if you have any more questions.
