Question about Dewalt 18 Volt Compact Drill Kit

Dewalt 18v cordless drill question

Hi,
I just bought a new 18 volt Dewalt cordless drill. I noticed two things that I don't understand. I can see sparks inside the housing vent slots when it is running. Also it makes a "clunk" noise and feel when it stops, like it has a brake on it or something. Are these two things normal? I am wondering if I should return it or if that is the way it is supposed to be. Thanks for "clue me in" if you can offer any information.

Yes this is normal the spark keeps motor from stalling out by taking away the friction spark by making own spark
the clunk is the drill brake so you dont brake your hand when screw goes in all the way unlike old drills that kept going even when your hand was attached to it

as for the clung sound and feel when you stop. there is a brake build in the dewalt because when the trigger is not pressed you cant turn the drill motor, i know this because i just broke my brake when i was changing the chuck. my drill still works but there is no brake now. the brake came in handy when your battery got week you let go of the trigger and turn the drill by hand to finishing setting a screw.

Brushes over time will wear down so comparing from the old to new will not look the same. If 18V brushes fit into the your drill then it should be fine.

Dewalt 18 volt cordless drill the chuck is stuck in the fully open position and wont close

Use a pipe wrench on it to give yourself a little more leverage. It is simply jammed all the way open and it will release when you apply enough force.

You have burned out the drill motor, it is shorted, the battery smoked due to a direct short, one thing I don't understand why the thermal limiter didn't trip in battery pack, I would contact manufacturer and try to get hem to buy you a new drill.
