It is not always the amp ic's, in fact this amplifier has discrete outputs, not ic's. This amp is a D class mono sub woofer amp.If the amp turns on but shuts off at low volume it is likely that you have an improper load. It is rated for 2 ohms to 8 ohms. I would advise using a 4 ohm load since it is not as stressful as a 2 ohm load. Your speakers may be at too low of an impeadance or shorted or shorted speaker wire.I have seen many times when people connect too many speakers to the outputs it causes the impeadance to be too low and the amplifier will shut down or overheat or go into protect mode. Try connecting just one 4 ohm speaker and see if it still goes into protect or shuts off. If it does, then you do have a problem within the amp. It could be leaky output transistors or even something in the power supply of the amp. If it plays properly, you have a bad speaker or improper speaker set up. More information is needed to give a better answer. How many speakers, speaker impeadance, speaker configuration. This amp has speaker jacks for 2 speakers, but they are in parallel together. If you connect a 4 ohm speaker to each speaker jack, you have just created a 2 ohm load. If you have two 4 ohm speakers on each jack, you have a 1 ohm load which is too low of impeadance for this amp. The positive terminal for each speaker jack is the same point electrically as is the negative jacks the same point to each other. It is like the positive jacks are tied together and the negative jacks are tied together.

check your ohm load on the sub and see if your amp can do the same, That is why every time it shuts off into protection mode. Check your gain level on the amp to this is not a volume knob for your amp, It is to get both the amp and cd player on the same page. Hope this was helpfull

Keeps shutting off at the lowest volume setting.

Check the switch wire connection. It's the one that turns the amp on when you turn the head unit on.

1000 w sony xplode works at low volume then red lights at volume5

Most likely one of your subs are blown, or the Ohm's are too low for the ampliphier. Try hooking up one speaker at a time to the amp and see if it does the same thing. If it shuts off on one of the two speakers, that speaker is most likely blown.

Sony xplod amp(XM-1652Z ) power/protect light

if your amp is overheating your sub is needing to much power that the amp doesnt have.
if its cutting out and the red light comes on you need to check the wiring. nothing not even the tinyest speaker wires can be touching.
proper wiring would be your best bet.
but i would upgrade amps.
cheap bang isnt reliable.

I don't think it is a problem. Your amp probably has a power-saving mode being activated at low volume levels. Actually I don't know exactly what your amp is, but this is just a guess, and it could be a plausible one as long as you can get sound without using the amp. If it is so, it must have a function to deactivate the power-saving mode.
