Whirlpool refrigerator gets too cold

My Whirlpool refrigerator has just started freezing milk. This is entirely a fridge only, no freezer in it. I replaced the thermostat. Still have the problem. Just now checked that the circulating fan is working. It is. What should I check next? The model number is EL7ATRRMS07.

We used to have the thermostat set to 4.5. Now, if I set it just under 1, the fridge warms to about 48 degrees. If I set it just over 1 (1.1), the fridge cools to 25 degrees.

Its everywhere. I've placed a thermostat on several shelves, and on the front and back of those shelves. I was hoping the fan was out and not circulating, but its running fine. And all the vent holes are open. No food packed in front of them, and no clogged holes. When the fan is running I can feel a lot of air circulating.

Still no help with my problem. Can someone else pitch in?

This is a common problem that often doesn't have a clear, permanent solution. The first thing to check is the overall internal refrigerator temperature. The proper temperature should be between 35 and 42 degrees. Here are some things to try:

  • If your refrigerator temperature is closer to 35 degrees, try turning the temperature up slightly.

  • If you find that the temperature varies a lot from the top shelf to the bottom (where it is coldest), try putting produce and other sensitive products on a higher shelf.

  • If the temperature is too low and you can't make it warmer by adjusting the thermostat, you probably have a defective thermostat. If so, you need to replace it, because they cannot be repaired. Other possible problems are a leak in the sealed (refrigerant) system, cold air migration (in side-by-side models) or a defective air damper. These problems can be quite difficult to locate and correct, we recommend you contact a qualified appliance repair technician.

The other problem was the Thermostat. I replaced the Thermostat and it's been working great for 4 years now.

Is the temperature problem localized to a specific area of the fridge, or everywhere. Generally the rear of the fridge gets the coldest.

Can you tell me why please?

All the big cooling happens inside freezer compartment. Freezer gives little cool air to fridge compartment. Now when the vent blocks that little cold air cannot go into fridge compartment. Thus your freezer works good but not fridge compartment. Milk goes bad but frozen meet keeps good.....

Vent freeze up either due to defrost problemt, defrost drain line problem, Evaporator fan problem or even can be your damper motor not opening due to unit failure or frozen damper door.

    Freezing problem

I think you mean that milk freezes, etc.

Probably bad thermocouple. In the refrigerators I'm familiar with, there is a thermocouple thermostat in the freezer. There is no measuring of refrigerator temperature; it just gets a portion of the cold freezer air.

If the thermostat is bad, then ice cream should be rock hard too, for it never quits cooling except on defrost cycle, three times per day.
