Same problem, my lens won't close but I think mine is worse cos the power won't turn off manually and LCD is no longer working. I guess it's because I used to remove the battery every time the camera hangs just so I can turn it off.

I had what sounds like the same problem. The camera was dropped and the shutter was stuck open. Just kept showing error message.
As I felt I had nothing to lose I began tapping it on a soft book and the shutter started to appear. I then shut it just using the end of my finger. When I then turned the camera on again it opened and shut when turned off. It has worked fine ever since.
Seems a rather poor design.
Hope this helps. Very best regards Peat.

Peat,

I received an email saying that a solution had been offered; I got out the camera and put battery in and turned own; noticed that I didnt get error messaged and was able to take a couple of pics; I was happy it worked; then I shut it off and the lens didnt close, so I tried your method; tapped a few time and saw a little of the lens; then turned camera off and the lens closeds; seems to be working fine so far; thanks a bunch

Shutter is stuck open on the digital camera w1200. When i turn it on the shutter goes in a little than tries to go out and it makes this weird loud clicking noise and i cant see a screen and when it is...

I think what you're referring to is the lens assembly not moving in and out correctly. The shutter is inside the camera out of view. Go to this website for possible solutions:

The lens won't come out - it makes a buzzing noise but won't open. Like it's jammed?? Olympus FE-46

Hi.

This error indicate that focusing ring got stuck or jammed. What you can try to do is spray some compressed AIR into the lens to try to free up any sand or dust that may have worked its way in. If that doesn't help, you can gently bump the camera to try to free the focusing ring.

or.......
You can try to turn camera ON at the table (facing it to the ceiling), don't put camera down face to the floor when opening.
Else your camera need to be disassembled to get at the focusing ring at Service Center.
Good luck and have a nice day.
Rating the solution is highly appreciated.

Sticky shutter inside the lens

Not sure that you really mean shutter, or the automatic lens cover. See the description below for a stuck shutter. If that's not what you meant, then see this instead. A stuck shutter is another common failure mode for digital cameras. The symptoms of a stuck or "sticky" shutter are very similar to CCD image sensor failure. The camera may take black pictures (for shutter stuck closed), or the pictures may be very bright and overexposed, sometimes with lines, especially when taken outdoors (for shutter stuck open). To confirm a stuck shutter, put the camera in any mode other than "Auto", and turn the flash OFF (you don't want to blind yourself for the next step). Next look down the lens and take a picture. You should see a tiny flicker in the center of the lens as the shutter opens and closes. If no movement is seen, then you likely have a stuck shutter. If so, please see this link for further info and a simple fix that may help.

Lens gets stuck, and makes a clicking noise when trying to open

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. With the camera closed and off point it straight up (lens towards the ceiling) and hit the power button while holding down the shutter release. When the camera opened, it immediately tried to focus for the picture it was told to take, and apparently it forced the lens to move.
You can also try blowing compressed air around the lens cover to clean it. Now slide a thin strip of paper between the lens cover shutters and the outer support ring and move it around 360 degrees. This will clear the debris stuck there.

With the lens barrel extended and pointed downward, tap the lens barrel with a pencil while you extend and retract the lens by powering the camera on and off. Repeat these steps several times to resolve the issue.

Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Thanks

Most likely the shutter "curtain" (a few pieces looking like sheet metal just behind the mirror, designed to protect the camera CCD from dust and damage due to too much light) is not opening. This will require servicing by Olympus, since you will have to take the camera apart to be able to reach this camera part. Unfortunately, this may be a pretty expensive repair.

Are you talking about the sliding door that powers on the camera and covers the lens?
There is a metal plate with two screws on the bottom of the sliding door that holds the door to the camera, try tightening the screws and see if that helps. Or else see if the door is slightly bent out of shape, and try to bend it back if you can.
This is a common problem on the Stylus-300 camera, you can buy a replacement door from eBay -
