my mac doesn't recognize TOD extension so I can't convert the files to Quicktime so I can edit. I even bought iverio, and that hasn't helped much because they don't have much in the was of tech support.

My USB cable and AC adapter are hooked up and should be good to go, but I push the "Playback on PC" button on the camera and nothing really happens. a screen comes up that says "USB Connection" with a graphic, and the light on the camera flickers a bit, but nothing shows up on the desktop or anywhere else. I have an Everio GZ-HD3U

Hi southofdawn, Here is the current workflow I'm using to convert .mod files. I use a Everio MG-555U.
Step 01: Transfer all .mod video files to the mac hard drive.
Step 02: I use a free program called "NameChanger" to change the .mod extension to .mpg. Dowload NameChanger here:
Step 03: I use another free program called "Mpeg StreamClip" to BATCH CONVERT the .mpg's to a quicktime friendly format like DV or something. The batch window is under the list drop down menu at the top of the screen. Streamclip can be found here:
This is the way I do it and it seems to work ok for me. There's probably a faster way but I haven't found it yet.
Cheers,  -atomicjo

I have the same camera. I used the mini usb 2.0 cable and the camera came up in iMovie. At first i used a standard mini usb and it wouldn't work and neither did the dv to firewire cable. I didn't even know there was a 2.0

I need mac software for my jvc everio gz-mg360bu camera.

There is a chance that you will be able to get back some or all of your digital videos from your JVC camcorder based on your Macintosh.

First things first: DO NOT take any more videos with the memory card or stick that you want to recover videos from in case you may quite possibly ruin your chances of video recovery.

Quick Internet searches will reveal a tremendous number of Mac recovery programs. Here are some for your reference(there is no freeware I suppose)

Data Recovery (from Mac Update)

Caution - Do NOT try & write anything back to the memory card of stick until you can recover your videos safely!

Share: How to import .tod files from JVC Everio HDD Camcorder to iMovie?

Requirements: iMovie (Part of the iLife 08 package)

Step 1: Connect the Everio to the Mac (Via USB)
Make sure you are powering the Everio from the mains before connecting your JVC Everio Camcorder.

Step 2: Playback on PC
Select “Playback on PC” on the Everio, once connected you will see the Everio HDD symbol appear on the desktop. The video files on the Everio are stored in the SD Folder/PRG***/MOV***.MOD.

Step 3: Open iMovie
Once you open iMovie, you will see that it recognizes the Everio straight away and will attempt to import your video.

You are now ready to use iMovie to edit your video files.

If need change .tod files to common video formats like mov, mp4, m4v, mpg, mpeg, dv, flv, avi, wmv, 3gp, mkv, mp3, aac, wma, m4a, etc. Mod Tod Video Converter for Mac is a good choice. The program can also convert mod tod to ipod, mod tod to iphone, tod to apple tv, tod to blackberry and more devices!

I use a JVC everio gz-mg555u While filming, it will suddenly stop and a recording malfunction message appears. It saves the footage shot, but will sometimes repeat this over and over again

This is just a problem inherent in this line of JVC.

This particular camcorder is poorly made. It seems to be the same glitch in these. I have the Everio Hybrid (Blue) and it worked fine for a week, then the problems started.

I am trying to get my money back!

you can always backup those movies you want to your computer using a software like nero from and use this. for you to have a fresh start, reformat the cam afterwards and look for a latest fiemware update.

hope this helps.
