Sony Handycam CCD-TRV58 Hi-8 won't display picture.

This sounds like the LCD and CCT in the Lens is dead, not a cheap repair if this is the case, pop it to a camera shop like Jessops.

How can I turn up the volume during playback? I do realize that during recording, the subject was some distance from the camera.

On the lcd screen, touch "P-Menu, then touch "volume" and use the up/down arrows to adjust...if it isn't there, use the menu button and choose the "standard set"option. Use the +/- buttons and then choose "ok".---Rick

Sony trv18e a few things don't work

Night shot light is "Infra Red" and you can not see it directly though camera will shoot in darkness if you slide ON Night-Shot switch.

Regarding playback volume problem, I think built-in speaker is defective ( open ) and needs to be replaced.
Let me know if you want some more info.

I also have a SONY 460x Handycam Vision CCD-TRV68 NTSC video Hi8 Steady Shot not able to record a picture but will record audio, playback is the same. Unfortunatly this occured after warranty was out. Seems like this might have been a manufactors defect.

No audio during playback

On my handycam you have to hit the Volume + button while playing back. Everytime you playback it starts volume at zero and you have to volume up to hear anytime you playback.

No picture during playback on LCD or TV from my Sony DCR-TRV255E

Just use good quality Video Head Cleaning Cassette. Video head is dirty/ clogged.
