Question about SanDisk Sansa e200 MP3 Player

1 Answer

Screen goes black

Been working for hours on this. I have mastered recovery mode, reformatted, downloaded new firmware (like three times). I have tried every fix I could find on this board, same think keeps happening. After following all the above steps, it lights up to the screen where you chose a language, but if you press any button, it goes black again. Sometimes I get the "connected" screen shot too, so I know the screen can work. Then nothing. Is this mp3 player just shot?

Thank you for responding. I think you're right, it appears to be a hardware problem, and it's out of warranty. But I'm not getting another Sansa, this one was problematic from day one!

Did you try downloading the Sansa Recovery Tool from Sandisk's website?

Are you running Vista? Check Sandisk's website for Vista-compatible software.

Also, does the computer recognize the player as an MTP device, or a USB Mass Storage device (or neither)? If the player will allow you, go in and switch modes in the settings to MTP device.

This could be a definite hardware issue. Only way to be sure is to get that specfic player replaced (try the store first, the manufacturer second for the replacement), and try again with a new one. If the new one does the same thing, then there is a problem with your PC configuration. If the new one works, then you know the old one had a hardware defect.

I have a creative zen m vision which is not working if I try to reload firmware I get a message harddidk problem - how do I proceed

1 HD damage could be done when you drop the Zen and you hear noises inside, some times the display just shows the Creative logo and no more.
2 the display just show the Creative logo, no noises inside, you can tray to put in Recovery mode as mentioned in the other solution and then erase firmware then reload firmware, this firmware can be downloaded form creative page,http://us.creative.com/support/downloads/download.asp?MainCategory=213&nRegionFK=&nCountryFK=&nLanguageFK=&sOSName=Windows+XP&region=1&P
However
Before you go to all that trouble though try these steps:

1. Connect the device to the wall charger.
2. Hold the power switch to ON.
3. Put a paper clip into the reset hole.
4. Continue holding the power switch on until the Creative logo appears.
5. Select Format All from the Recovery Mode menu. (Note: THIS WILL ERASE ALL DATA FROM YOUR DEVICE! - but it's better than buying a new device)
6. When the reformatting is done, select Reboot from the Recovery Mode menu.

Ipod keep freezing with only the apple showing on screen...wont do anything else...says port is not found

1) Start iTunes.

2) Power the device on by holding the sleep/wake and home button for about 10 seconds. Release the sleep/wake button, but keep holding the home button.

3) If you did it correctly, the device will be showing either a connect to itunes screen (recovery mode) or a black screen (DFU mode) We are trying for DFU mode here, but recovery may work too. Connect the ipod to your computer. iTunes will tell you that it has detected an iPhone or iPod touch in recovery mode.

4) If you see the iTunes icon and cable on your iPhone, your device is not in DFU mode, but in recovery mode. Your device's screen will be black when you are in DFU mode. I always have to try this several times so succeed.

5) Connect your device back to your Pc/Mac and press SHIFT+CLICK (pc) or COMMAND+ CLICK on the restore button.

6) Select the firmware version you'd like to install from your computer. You can google for ipod touch firmare to download the file, or just let it update right from apple.
7) Wait for a couple of minutes and your iPhone/iPod will be as new.

Zen firmwair

Hello,

This sounds like it might be a hard drive problem. To put it into Recovery Mode, do this: put a paperclip in the Reset hole while holding the power button in the On position. Then release the paperclip and continue to hold the power button until it goes to the Recovery Mode screen. You should at this point try Format and Scan Disk/Cleanup, then Reboot. If it still gets stuck at the same spot, try the following:

Download the Zen firmware to your PC, then reboot your PC and connect the Zen via USB cable. Open the firmware icon to begin the download.

If the upgrade button on the firmware window is not available, it is also time to replace your motherboard due to corruption of a chip on the board.

New songs= black screen

try to remove the battery, wait 30 seconds and replace it
this should reset your sansa,

a real hard reset isn't possible,
you can format it though
warning, this removes everything

To format your Sansa E200 series MP3 player:

1. Open "My Computer."
2. With the player plugged into the USB port, right-click on the player (if in MTP mode) or the drive letter for your player (if in MSC mode) and select "Format" from the right-click menu.
3. Press "Start."
4. You will receive a warning that the format process will erase all data on your device.
IMPORTANT: Make sure you have backed up all of your data from the device before continuing with the format. Procedure will erase everything off the player. Agree to the warning.
5. The format will complete. Close the format window and your player should be ready to use.

After the format, please install the latest firmware update for your player. Please visit the following link to download and upload the Firmware on your Sansa E200:
http://www.sandisk.com/Assets/File/Downloads/firmware/e200fw01.00...

PLEASE NOTE: All files will be deleted. Backup your files. Your MP3 player must be in MSC mode before installing the Firmware update.

To set your player in MSC mode, please do the following:

1. When the player is turned on, press the “Menu” button.
2. Navigate to the “Settings” menu.
3. Navigate to “USB”.
4. Under the “USB” menu, go to “MSC”.
After changing the player to MSC mode, reconnect it to your computer. The screen on the MP3 player should read “USB Connected” and "MSC”
You can now complete the Firmware update download from SanDisk.com on your device.
Installation Instructions:

1. Unplug any other USB flash drives that's connected to any of your USB ports.
2. Download the firmware to your PC
3. Plug in your e200
4. Double-click on the downloaded firmware (e200fw01.00.12.exe) and follow instructions
5. Unplug your e200
6. Device will do it's own update process and will restart.
The device should be ready to be used again.

New songs= black screen

I had dropped it about 6 inchs and didn't think that that would cause any problems. My player would not power up. The blue light was the only thing that came on. I tried the soft and hard resets and nothing worked. Windows detected it as a tango media device and had no drivers for it. I finally took it apart and found that a board on the back of the player had come off. I plugged it back in, put it back together and it works again! I wouldn't suggest doing this if the player is still under warranty.

Recovery mode

Recovery mode won't help you unless you have the recovery files to go with it. Most likely you will need to re-install the firmware on to the device. Download this "recovery tool" from the SanDisk website and run it with your device connected in recovery mode. Make sure you select "format" when prompted. Tool is here; http://sandisk.com/assets/file/downloads/firmware/e200fw01.00.12.exe Recovery mode - power off device. Slide "hold" switch into hold position. Press and hold "record" button and then connect to PC.(keep record button pressed until after connected to pc) Hope this helps.

Sansa e260 problem

It might just need to be reformatted. If you don't care about deleting and redownloading everything with songs and videos and pictures, too, then reformat it. Just plug the mp3 player into your computer and right click on the icon in the MY COMPUTER window, and click on FORMAT. It should come to a new window and click on start format. If this doesn't work, then call me to help you any further. Ask for Maxwell at 1-(239)-945-0583.
