The buttons inside your remote are rubber with a carbon dot on the bottom side. Since carbon conducts electricity, these "dots" touch two separate copper traces on the circuit board to make the electrical connection...volume up, channel down, etc. You may try removing the batteries and CAREFULLY separating the top and bottom casing of your remote control (lots of small plastic tabs involved so go slow) and cleaning both the carbon dots and the copper traces to see if that helps.
A quicker and less stressful approach is to purchase a universal remote that have the same functions your original Samsung remote also has. Another idea...online auctions parting systems out and perhaps selling just the remote control that you need.
