Question about Garmin nuvi 350 GPS Receiver

1 Answer

USB Connection stopped working

My Nuvi 350 won't connect to my PC. It used to change to a PC on the touchscreen and I'd go through the normal device setup and be able to see the the device in My Computer. All of the sudden, the PC on the touchscreen no longer appears when I connect the USB cable. I've tested the cable on my cell phone and it works just fine, so I don't think it's the cable. I think it's the USB connector on the device itself. Just wanted to see if there was an easy fix to this or do I need to take in for service.

Verify that it is a Garmin USB cable that you're using.

My Nuvi 1390T will not start up after I ran the WebUpdater service and installed all the recommended updates on it. The screen only shows "Loader Loading" message above the "GARMIN"...

press and hold one of the corners as you power the GPS on. It will prompt you to reset to factory default. Then try your upload again.

What do I use to hook my gps to the pc, to update it

You will need a USB cable to make this connection.
Any USB generic charger will work. I used on my Garmin the Motorola cellphone USB cable.
The procedure is like this:
Connect, start Garmin Nuvi and disconnect; then reinsert the USB plug when your Nuvi model number is displayed at the bottom of the screen. You can even charge your Garmin this way. To reduce the charging time follow these steps:
# change the display brightness to less than 25%
# turn off the Garmin device.

When i connect my garmin nuvi 205w to the pc by usb i cant turn it on. is this normal or is there something i can change? thanks.

This is normal. You should get a picture of a PC to show that it's connected. Since it would not be possible to update files that are in use the connection prevents the Satnav from being started.

Nuvi 350 System Software Missing

If you have a nuvi 350 download the software to your computer and then load the software onto a formatted sd card. Insert the sd card and bootup the Nuvi 350. The sofware will then load onto the Nuvi 350. If you have a Nuvi 200 I would think it works the same but I have not tried it.
Hope this helps

The computer won't recognize the gps

When I hooked the nuvi 350 to the PC, the PC like a normal USB device. It could not recognize the drive on the nuvi. The solution is to change the drive letter as outlined in the manual. Google nuvi 350 manual (I got it at , download the manual, and go to the appendix. Look under 'USB interface troubleshooting'. This worked like a charm

Map Update installation failure

Seems like a communication problem. Are you using a usb hub between pc and garmin, if yes remove that. have a single connection between the pc and the nuvi. Does the nuvi go into mass storage mode (you see the screen change) if not you have a usb problem with the pc. You may need to install the proper driver from the cd. After. I'm assuming you are using Windows XP. Go to configuration menu double click on system, click on hardware and scroll down to the usb section. Plug in the Nuvi and see if it adds a mass strorage device amoungst the usb devices. No exclamation mark, that's good, if it presents an exclamation mark, right click and select update device driver, try the automatic option, otherwise manual and look for the driver on the dvd. Should go fine from there. If not get back to me.

Garamin Nuvi 350...blanked out and won't turn back on.

Try the computer USB adapter. After it's been connected for about 20 seconds then try powering on the Nuvi. Even if your unit's battery is dead the USB connection should hold power on the unit so that the computer recognizes it as a Mass Storage Device (Windows). If that doesn't work then use the wall adapter and leave it plugged in for an hour or so. At that point if the unit fails to power on then push the reset button in the back under the antena and hold it in for 10 seconds while the cord is connected to the wall. This will clear any software related issues that would stop it from powering up - any other result indicates most likely a hardware failure. At least rule out your plugs.
