I have an Akai PDP4294 that has worked great for the last 5 years. We were watching TV and the picture just went black even though we can hear the TV fine. When I power the TV I see the red light on the console to indicate power and hear all sound normally, there is just no picture. Any ideas?

Any idea where to find boards? There are not many places that seem to carry plasma service or parts...Any idea where to find boards? There are not many places that seem to carry plasma service or parts...

It may only be a power distribution problem which comes from age and leaving it on 24/7. This should only be a $100.00 fix unless you have a friend in the field.
The high voltage power supply for the plasma display has failed. It may or may not be on a separate board that could be replaced the owner. If you find a separate board, it may have its own fuse which you could check for continuity with an ohmmeter.
the red blinking light usually has a pattern that gives you a code to the possible problem. Maybe you have a bad power supply board. You have to open the panel and do a few tests on the power supply's outputs to be sure. It produces a variety of voltages for different parts of the tv ie. the plasma display panel and the audio system. The components supplying power to the audio system may have failed a year ago and recently the pdp.
plasma tv's are expensive to repair, most of the time you can get a better tv for the same price. You can reduce that cost by learning and troubleshooting it yourself.
Repaired one of these with the same symptoms about two weeks ago. My guess is that the SMPS has failed. In laymen's terms the power supply, Samsung p/n#Bn96-00249a and you should be able to purchase it at Vance Baldwin http://www.vancebaldwin.com/ and just sign in as a guest, select parts# and input the number above (no dashes). Be seated when you do they're a bit spendy - - about $270.00 dollars plus shipping and a $50.00 core... You get that back when you send them the old one..
After you get the back off the PS is located in the middle of the unit at the top of the screen. If you need the service manual to help just let me know. It's actually an easy plug and play repair...
Good Luck

I had the same problem I was told to unplug then reset but still no luck. Mine have been broken since Aug 2006 and seems like it's so hard to find somebody to fix it. Please let me know if you fix yours.
