Re: freezes duing start up
This could be many things... first of all, are you able to boot into safe mode?..you do that by tapping the F8 key repeatedly while booting, until you get a screen that gives you options on which way you want to boot windows. Select Safe mode and see if you can. Also, what type of computer do you have?, and, have you done any recent program installations or removals?

Please press F8 several times during startup. When you get screen asking you to choose what you want to do please choose Safe Mode. Then you need to get to System Restore console you do this by going. Start----> All Programs-----> Accessories---->System Tools-----> Sytem Restore
Choose the date when your PC was last working properly and click Next Next Yes. This should restore your Computer to previous state. Good Luck
Hi there, please restart your laptop when its booting press F8 key . You will find few option asking for selection. Select that by using up/down arrow key. Select " Last know good configuration" & press Enter. Next page asking for selecting operating system, for example: windows vista or Windows XP etc. Just select the operating system & press Enter again. ( Hope your laptop showing only one operating system ). Your laptop will start normally.
I have the same problem with my Gateway 7330gz. My laptop got infected with spywares and it was so annoyed that I have to think about recover the system. So I did it with Gateway Recovery software. I chose the recovery option (press F11 when boot up)from hard drive since my dvd drive was broken. It went well but when it boots up again and Windows XP says detecting and installing the drivers and such, it was frozen haft way through. I turned off power many times to reboot but it kept freezing at that point. I search Internet for help and seen this post. Wonderful! I press F2 to go to BIOS setup screen, use right arrow key to move to Advance menu option. There I use down arrow key to select SpeedStep, hit (-) key to disable it. Then F10 to save and exit, hit enter for OK button. The system boots again but this time it was no longer freezing, the setup process went through ok and continues...I am so happy and type this message so it might help others with the same issue. Thanks
Boot the system with your Windows XP installation disk. When the boot options window appears select R for recovery console. Once you have logged into the DOS session type: fixmbr and hit the enter or return key and select "y" for yes you want to do this. Type: fixboot and hit the return key again, hit "y" for yes.
Try firstly, on start up keep pressing F8 until a menu comes up.
Look for the line that reads 'Start windows with last known good configuration', move cursor to it with the up or down keys as your mouse won't work; and press enter.
Hopefully your pwill restart and run as normal.
If not you may need your Windows cd.
