Stop start performance

I have a Pavilion dv2000. It has only been used for 100 hours or so, but is a few months old. It was given to my wife by friends. It works very well for most of the time, but many times a day it will seize, work very very very slowly, and little can be done, other than to wait for 5-20 minutes and then it will be fine again. It is up to date with the microsoft stuff, and I upgraded the BIOS. It has had NOD32 since the start. Has anyone come accross this before? It is pretty annoying, and I am thinking of formatting the HDD and reinstalling Vista.

Thanks for your help.

Mmmm, I am familiar with NOD32 from my other machine, and while I do not know much, the seizing does not seem to be linked with update attempts of NOD32. Doesn't NOD32 use the least resources of the anti-virus/firewall software crowd?

Nothing seems to be tying up memory or CPU usage. Fairly low demands, but still it really seizes (ie I click the start menu and it takes 30seconds to a minute to pop up).
    Thanks for helping.

Sounds like NOD 32 is causing a few issue, It tends to update itself quite often and tie up almost 100% of CPU time when doing this. I would try uninstalling this this and trying a different firewall that isn't as resource hungry. I would recommend Comodo AV and Sygate or Comodo Firewall, These are all free and available for downlaod from the web, They also use very little CPU and Memory and always prompt before installing updates etc. Hope this helps.

Another thing you could check, when the device slows right down, press CTRL + ALT + DEL and enter the task manager.

From there you will see what is tying up the CPU and using the memory, take note of the process name and that should give you an idea if it is an application or process that is tying up the issue.

We ran a typical HP Pavilion DV2000 battery of tests, including games, applications, and a couple other areas. Time constraints limited the amount of testing we could get done before the NDA lift (and it's already a few hours late), but we will be providing a follow-up article with further testing and information. That said, if there are any specific areas that you'd like to see tested, feel free to e-mail me or leave a comment.

Have a HP Pavilion DV2000 that the screen went black and I connected it to an external monitor that is Black as well. What should I look for next.

This sounds like the symptoms of a known issue with the DV2000 series. I don't know if they're still doing it, but a few months ago they were fixing them free even out of warranty. Read the following article by HP and see if it applies to your situation. Good luck!

try right clicking "my computer" then click on hardware tab. Then, click on device manager, then look under "other devices". are there any exclamation marks beside "Conexant high def. audio"? If there is re-install the driver in the hp support site http://h20180.www2.hp.com/apps/Lookup?h_lang=en&h_cc=us&cc=us&h_page=hpcom&lang=en&h_client=S-A-R163-1&h_pagetype=s-002&h_query=dv2000 then go to your laptop model and look for your audio driver.

The issue with the DV2000, 6000 and 9000 not booting, no display, no sound, no wireless is well known to HP- check their website. Call them and make them fix your computer. If they argue, firmly direct...

http://www.fixya.com/support/p509081-hp_hp_pavilion_dv9000z_17_notebook/manual-32842. Read it but finally I would recommend that you ask the manufacturer to replace your set with a different one and pay the difference. This series has lots of problems which will never get totally solved.....sodeep

Hp pavilion dv2000 notebook will not boot up

hi,
i m in Hong Kong. The stupid HP repair center charged US 90 just for inspection!!!!! They they said the whole motherboard had to be replaced, thts additional US 630 dollars, the thing is just 1.5 yr old. They also said i don get to keep the broken mother board after replacement. This is simply irresponsible, unethical, sleazy and UNJUST!!

Thanks. right now the computer is fixed for US70. when i hv time, i'll open it up and see if i can figure it out how it was fixed. The shop suggested tht the computer wont last too long. This is such bad quality for HP... Sorry, i hv to do the following for other victims to find this easily:
(can some creative netizen bring this to the public light to pressure HP to do the ethical things??)
