The unit is running, the compressor sounds as if it is kicking in but the thermostat is set on 73 and the unit is running constantly and never seems to reach the set point.

I have a coleman roof top a/c with no wall thermostat. can i put one on it? not sure which model i have. are thre some models which a thermostat cannot be installed on?

Yes, you can put a thermostat. Doesn't it have a cold/hot selector? The fan may still run when you turn it to warmer, but it limits how much the compressor kicks on and off. You will need to go to an electrical supply and tell them what you are doing, and whether or not they recommend you use a relay or wire into the one already in the unit.

if the compressor started and stoped means
1 thermostat need settings
2 compressor over heated due to low suction pressure need to check and repair the leak then charge the freon

My coleman mah 3 roof top will not blowon fan side

Sounds like you have either a bad fan motor or a bad fan motor capacitor. When you turn the unit on with the fan not working, the compressor (the humming noise) runs and gets real hot real quick resulting in the compressor cutting off ( the nothing after) on it's inside high temp switch. This is what the compressor is designed to do so that when this happens, it does not burn the compressor out. Replace you fan capacitor, give the compressor an hour to cool, then try it. In most cases and if I'm correct, the unit will run just like you want it to. Good luck.

The distance of the cord is a big deal, 10AWG Cord would be best for this situation. If you have a 50ft cord, make sure that the cord is not wound up on top itself as this can cause a drop in voltage and a spike in amperage. Is the compressor trying to come on at all? If not, then you may have a problem with the selector switch or the thermostat. If the compressor is humming for a few seconds and then stopping and then trying to come on again, it could be a problem with voltage loss. Anything below 98.5 plus or minus 10% is too low the for the compressor to kick on.

I have a Coleman 6770 A Series roof air on my trailer. It won't blow cool air. Is this a compressor problem? And if so, would it just be cheaper to replace the whole unit than to try and repair this one?

Before the compressor is condemned, is it running at all? Is it getting the proper voltage? If the compressor will run and still does not cool the system could be low on refrigerant.

A replacement compressor is normally more economical than replacing the entire unit. It could be something as simple as a open thermostatic control.
