Question about Toshiba SD-P1600 Portable DVD Player

1 Answer

"Open" written on screen

I put the disc in and it reads (Open) as if the lid is not shut. It doesn't spin or read the disc and the buttons display a "cant work" circle when pressed. It thinks the lid is up.

I have the same problem. The plastic pin is on the disc door but on the board there appears to be no button. It looks like it come down on top of a black piece of plastic that is soldered to the board but there is not button on it that I can see. I assume it would be small?

There is supposed to be a little plastic piece that pushes down a button that tels it that it that the door is closed that plastic piece is broken off. Look for it and glue a little piece of plastic on it, should fix it.

I purchased a toshiba portable dvd player and the disc is not spinning therefore reads no valid disc. I have put in a few discs still same reading? Any suggestions?

Hello
The Sled Motor is defective. this is the motor, whic spins the disc as it has been loaded properly. If the loader mechanism loads the disc properly into place and if the catch up magnet catches the disc in place, and still the dis do not spins, replace the sled motor. OK.

When loading a dvd it displays, "NO DISK". Is it

Hello
There are mainly three motors for most of the DVD players. One to spin the disc we insert in, other to load the laser pickup unit to-and-fro inside it to read the disc and an other one to load the tray mechanism 'in-out'. According to your description, the disc spins inside, and you can hear its spin. So motor which spins the disc has no trouble at all I should say. Then comes to the second motor that moves the laser assembly inside it. If it do not work, the laser pickup unit won't move and no reading will take place and 'No Disc' display will be the result. The last chance is with Laser Pickup Unit itself. Just get this unit repaired by any well experienced service technician or by the authorised service center, because, there are special tools to open this unit. As it is a compactable one, more care should be given to it while repairing. Suspect the second motor I described earlier, and the Laser Pickup Unit. OK.

Audiovox D1998 portable DVD player will no long read disc.

This of course may not be the exact same thing, but mine did the same thing. Sounding like it was loading, but in fact pressing the open button it I could see the disc not spining at all (normally you would.) With the power off of course. I took all the bottom screws out (where ever the arrow points to a screw) including to the display. There is one ribbon cable easily disconnected. I lifted the mount the DVD sits on and reseated it. I put a disc in it, turned on the power and the disc turned. Great I thought. I reconnect the cable, put the screws back in - and its working.

In the lid should be a mgnetic plate that holds the disc to the motor spindle (much like slight pressure would). Inspect it to make sure it's free moving and seating all the way when the lid is closed. I had one unit where the spindle on the motor shaft had slid down slightly causing the magnetic plate to not seat down all the way. Also, if the magnetic plate is removable, try placing it on the disc with the lid open and bypassed and see what happens.

Hope that helps...

Can't get a disk to play

I've seen failure of the spindle motor to cause problems like this. Problem can also be a leaky diode in the power supply.

Won't turn on

The DVD may have jumped out of the tray, and the machanism can't work as the disc is in the way. Try unplugging nd removing the lid, take the disc out by hand and then reassemble and try.
