Open a browser

type 192.168.1.1 in hte address line, press enter

you should get a prompt for a username/password

Leave username blank

Password admin

this should get you to the firmware configuration.

If you can't access the router, press and hold the reset button on the back for 5 seconds with the point of a pen, then try again.

I have this model of router i purchased from ebay i have had it for over a month now and i can not access the router setup page. the model i have says on the back "demo model wifi disabled" it works when i wire into it but I do not know the password and user name and they are not the defaults. I have tried every linksys default password and user name i could find but no luck. i tried resetting the router with the reset button on the back and to be honest i am becoming very frazzled with this unit. do you have any suggestions on how i can unlock this router . today i even tore it apart down to the board to see if there was any sort of internal switches batteries or otherwise and i dont know how to flash a router or if you can flash a router like i said im completely lost

How to change my router's name and password

Hi,

Please go through the hyperlink and some additional information as per below.

http://www.wikihow.com/Change-the-Name-of-a-Wireless-Network

You can configure the router at http://192.168.1.1/

For a secure network you must:

- change the default password ("admin") of the router configuration on the Administration tab.

- change the network name/SSID of the wireless network from "linksys" to something unique.

- enable wireless security WPA2 Personal if possible with a strong preshared key.

Only then all wireless transmissions are encrypted and only computers which know the preshared key are able to connect.

There is no benefit changing the name of the router, usually, but you can do that, too, on the web configuration pages.

Make sure to press save settings before changing to a different tab.

Details how to configure everything are in the manual which is on the CD and which you can download from the linksys web site as well.

This will definitely resolve the concern.

Thanks,
Amar

Good night trying to set my linksys wireless up but is anable to do so so can you please assist me.

To connect to your wireless router, the router's wirelesssettings needs to be configured with the SSID, encryption etc. and also thewireless cards in all the laptops/computers needs to be configured with theserouter's wireless settings. Then the laptops/desktop computers can communicatewith your wireless router.
Connect a LAN cable from the Linksys to the LAN port on your computer.
Open a browser and enter the Linksys configuration URL
http://192.168.1.1
The default login = admin
The default PW = admin
You can protect your router by changing the default admin PW (write it down andput it in a safe place)
Go to the wireless configuration and set up the SSID and WPA or WPA2encryption.
Apply these settings to the wireless card in your laptop/computer.
To secure your wireless network from unauthorized access, please click on thislink and follow my instructions :- http://www.fixya.com/support/r3559128-wireless_router_security

I have a wireless router and am trying to link up a laptop that we just restored to factory settings. We do not know the security key or the pass phrase. the model number is WRT54GS V7.2 serial #...

If you have forgotten your LinkSys messagebox_info.png router password, the easiest thing to do is to reset your router to the factory default settings.
To restore the router configuration to factory defaults, hold the reset button on the unit for 30 seconds.
Once your router is hard reset, you will need to login and configure it again.
forgot-linksys-router-password.jpg To reconfigure your LinkSysmag-glass_10x10.gif, connect a PC to one of it's Ethernet ports, load a messagebox_info.png web browser, and go to the URL http://192.168.1.1/. This will take you to a messagebox_info.png popup box which asks you to enter a username and password to login to your router.

I formatted my hard drive and can't connect wirelessly.

Hi,

If you've lost your ssid, then the best way to connect is to reset the router. That linksys router has a reset button on the back of it. Hold in for about 10 seconds, and it will reset it back to the factory defaults. Then login to it and reset your ssid.

Good Luck

You need to configure your router.
For that Connect your router to computer with ethernet cable then you can access it with following default link.

Click on WAN settings and set those settings as your internet service provider settings.
If you need user name and password for connect to your service prtovider then configurayour router as PPPOe .

No internet access with wireless

Hi,

First of all check the DSL cable must be in WAN port of the linksys router. if it is done then do the following.

Actually DSL modem and Linksys router are conflicting with their IP class. Means DSL and Linksys routers are using the same IP class of 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1.

You must change one's IP class because both are routers and if they having same class they cant communicate. Unplug the WAN cable of the linksys. open browser and put ip 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 any one which works for u in the address bar. Username and password hopefully be admin admin or just admin and password blank field.
when you access the linksys router configuration page then come to LAN configuration. If there IP is 192.168.1.1 then change it to 192.168.0.1 and if it is 192.168.0.1 then change it to 192.168.1.1 Save configuration and reboot your laptop and plug dsl cable to linksys WAN port.
Hope now this will work.

Hasan

How do I find out my wep key

Looks like you will have to login to the router from the other computer to find the key.
Usually, the address to the router admin screens is one of the following:
192.168.0.1 Linksys
192.168.1.1 NetGear
192.168.10.100 Motorola
Generally 192.168.1.1 will work for most.
Default Login:
Login = admin
Password = password (default - if this doesn't work, then you will need to find it or initialize the router)
Go to the WEP security Screen
NetGear EXAMPLE:
Security Encryption (WEP)
Authentication Type *Automatic*
Encryption Strength *64bit* (64 bit is sufficient - the network overhead is less than 128 bit)
Security Encryption (WEP) Key (The active key below is marked with *)
Passphrase *Blank*
Key 1 abcdabcdab (64 bit examples = 10 hex digits 128 bit will be longer string)
Key 2 dcbadcbadc
Key 3 123456789a
Key 4 *Blank*
Click logout when finished

LinkSys Example:

Wireless Network Menu
Wireless Network Mode Mixed
Wireless Network Name (SSID) MyWireless
Wireless Channel 7 - 2.442 GHZ
Wireless SSID Broadcast Enable
Wireless Security
Security Mode WEP
Default Transmit Key 1 (This is the active key)
WEP Encryption 64 bits (or 128 bits)
Passphrase
Key 1 abcdabcdab
Key 2 dcbadcbadc
Key 3 123456789a
Key 4
There is no logout for the LinkSys. Just disconnect

you should only need to enter the WEP key and get youre friend to remove your mac address. You may also need to refresh the ip address of your wireless card, so go to control panel>network connections>right click to properties>TCP/IP line>properties and ensure 'obtain ip address automatically' is ticked, then reastart your pc. Or you can also click Start>Run, then type ipconfig /flushdns, so as to renew your dns and ip address.
