We have a Xerox Workcenter Fax Machine. One of our salesreps regularly tries to fax us. Our machine answers and sends out the fax tone for several seconds. His machine never starts transmitting and after 30 seconds or so disconnects. We have not had complaints from anyone else and he can fax other people. Now he faxes someone else and then they fax us. It just seems our two machines do not like each other. We have standard phone lines and do not go through any type of switchboard or PBX.

If the "Mode" was "Tx" or "Snd", you tried to send a fax,
and the other fax machine did not answer, then it was either turned
off, or out of paper or ink. If the mode was "Rx" or "Rcv", it means
your fax machine tried to receive a fax, but none was sent. If your
machine was in TEL/FAX or FAX mode and it received a regular call, the
caller heard the fax tone and hung up. If your machine was in ANS/FAX or
EXT.TAM mode, it most likely means a regular voice caller heard the
answering machine and hung up without leaving a message.
If this is on a network your network tech needs to set up your machine through one of the routers.
If the machine was pluged into the phone socet direct, there would be no problem. The phone will ring constantly, until you plug the phone to the machine.
If the machine does not answer the phone, then the problem maybe in the machines confguration for auto answer, or a modem board not working.
But on a network, the computer is trying to find the signal, but can't because it cannot find the machines signal.
This problem is in the network side. Check with your network specialist.
