Question about PC Desktops

1 Answer

I have a Philips Brilliance 200W Monitor now about 2 years old. I have been away for a week and the screen had been left switched off on the monitor switch but still connected to the mains and computer. I have now come back to find a black screen, not a glimmer of anything although the the power light is illuminated. Is there something obvious that I am missing that stope me getting a visual display ? I hope that some one can assist me as I am loathe to lose my Philips monitor. John

Did you check the sleep mode or power off mode? What do you do to make it come back on? Sounds like it might be getting too hot and/or going bad. Not sure how to diagnose this without seeing it myself. That is the best that I can do. Your video card could be going bad. Try another video card on that monitor. This will be the only way to decide if it is the card or monitor. Try it on another machine and see what it does.

I can't fix this for you, but if I helped you get it fixed, please rate it as a fixya not a helpful rating. These ratings let me be allowed to help you and others in the future.

How to change orientation of monitor

I'm a little unclear of what you are asking.

1) Screen has turned on monitor?

Press the CTRL key, and ALT key down at the same time.
Now tap on the Left Side Arrow key, until the screen is oriented correctly again.

2) Screen on monitor has shifted left, right, top, or bottom?
Use the controls on the monitor to set it correctly again.

3) Using dual monitors?
Right-click on an empty space on your desktop screen.
Left-click on Properties at the bottom of the list.
Left-click on Settings.

The monitor 1 icon is supposed to be your Primary monitor.
The monitor 2 icon is the Secondary monitor.

Ordinarily the Primary monitor is on the LEFT side, and the Secondary monitor is on the RIGHT side.
Just as shown in the Settings window.

If you wish to move a monitor to the other side, go to the monitor icon you wish to move.

Put your mouse cursor on the monitor icon you wish to move.
Left-click, and hold the left mouse button down.
Now drag the monitor icon you wish to move, to the other side.

Not doing it for you?
Then post in a Comment with more exacting information, as what it is that you wish to do.

You need to enable the 2nd video output in the video card settings!

right click on desktop select properties and select the settings tab

Select the monitor 2, click on extend my desktop to this monitor.

Then you can drag windows either out from your main monitor, to up, down, or the sides debends on where you set the 2nd display, you can also change the position of the 2nd screen by draging it around in the middle.

Have HP slimline series. Came back from a break.

Try another monitor on it to verify it is the video card that has gone bad. If it does not work with another monitor then that is the likely culprit.

I was flooded last year and am now trying to put my PC together.....some wires/cables and all instructions were lost. I have main cable from pc to monitor, keyboard, speakers and mouse. As well as the...

Make sure that your monitor is plugged into mains and that it is switched on. If the monitor is on you can see a "orange" light bottom left on the screen. If it comes on with a "No signal" on your screen, then you know that the screen is working. If the light is green, you know that your PC and monitor are "communicating".

You can also check if the cable from the screen (blue connector 15pin male) is connected to the correct VGA port at the back of your pc. Sometimes pc have 2 or 3 VGA ports meaning they have an onboard VGA, and a additional installed graphics card.

If you suspect the mon to be dead, then try the monitor on a different machine. In this way you can distinguish if the monitor is dead or your PC.

First, I would try connecting a different monitor if possible. If the problem persists, it would be a problem with your computers video card. If the 2nd monitor works fine, then your monitor is at fault and may need to be replaced.

PC or monitor, signal problems

your monitor is telling you it's on it's last legs..either that or your compaq has a bad video section. either is more vital than a video cable being loose.
