Question about Dell W3000 30 in. HD-Ready LCD Television

Set on no picture

We push the on button...the light is green...but set does not go on. We used to press the button several times and it went on but it no longer goes on.

Local repair people don't want to deal with Dell TV sets apparently.

1. Try this - hold the menu button down for 10 seconds. TV should power up; you will have to turn off front panel buttons on menu.

2. Try a hard reset: Unplug the Tv from the AC mains, wait about 10 minutes and replug and power on the Tv and see.

3. Powering down the set or putting it in standby may have allowed the power supply to cool. Weak capacitors often go out of spec when they cool, thus preventing a section of the power supply from firing up properly again. There is a simple trick...just warm the back of the TV with a hair dryer for 5-7 mins after you have unplugged the TV. Look for the little areas of holes in the back panel of TV. Use these as your guide at where to use the hairdryer, but don't hold the dryer too close (say 5-6inches away). (Make sure the dryer is on High heat). If the TV doesn't turn on after you have heated it up (like it tries to come on but then turns off) you need to unplug the TV again, this resets it. And repeat those steps till it works. Resetting the TV after it fails to turn on is the key. Also, just leave the TV on. Don't turn in off. Since it is LCD, it doesn't take much power...only a few bucks extra a month for your utility bill.

4. A circuit board may crack about some of the larger components mounted on it. You can inspect the PCB's for fractures, and then repair them. It may also be poor soldering that has failed. I would be checking for these things first.

5. The problem could be with the power board. Unfortunately, the board is manufactured by a Chinese company, and they do not sell parts. They only replace entire sets if returned under warranty from Dell..

Try this: Shine a bright light at the screen. If you can see the ghost of an image if you shine a bright light at the panel, then probably the backlight is gone. There may be generic replacements for those,
they're only a little different from household fluorescent bulbs. Call
around to TV repair stores that advertise 'all brands'. The lamp power
supply is also highly subject to failure. A very sharp repair shop can
fix those with generic parts too, depending on exactly what failed. But
if it's a proprietary part like a transformer, that was designed
specifically for that model, I don't think there is any choice apart from getting a new TV...

Have you tried using the remote at all. If the remote works, then the button on the tv is at fault and needs replacing otherwise you could be having bigger problems. Please update me on this problem after reading my comment. thanks

How old is your unit? Is it still under warranty?

If you provide the Dell Service Tag #, I can look up it's warranty and support status.

Problems with lg rz-42px11 load bang no picture

The set really needs to be looked at by a shop or an experienced tech, not going to get here and answer: press this button and that and it will be just fine.

Something clearly popped--since they only sell boards for this set it may need one or more or even if the panel or screen unit is involved be fatal---have it looked at to see what happened.

I have an 32 inch LCD tv which is about 2 yrs old. Was watching tv when the screen went from normal viewing to zoom1. Followed directions from manual, which said to select imput on the remote then select...

Try this. On your remote control there should be a button that says "Aspect" hit that button and it will probably say "zoom1" or "zoom". If you continue pressing the button it will give you several option. My TV is set to "Wide" which is what I am sure yours should be as well. Or simply continue pressing the button until the picture is at the setting you are accustom too.
I hope this helps with the problem,Jason

I have a Mitsubishi VS-50501A Rear projection TV. When I push the power button the green comes on for a few seconds then goes out. The TV will not power on.

This one may or may not have the self check:

when green light goes out on front of set press menu and input (device) buttons at same time and hold for at least 5 seconds and let go: if it has self check power light should blink a two digit error code and repeat it several times.

If no response it indicates some problem in main power supply (set is in shut down)

I need to know what skills you have; what I have seen mostly in these early sets is bad solder connections that develop on main boards; I can tell you where and what to look for but it involves getting at the boards and being able to solder.

Before you rate this information let me know what you find and remember I am here to help you.

I turned my t.v. on w/the remote. it came on then turned right off. at least i thought it did. there was no picture and the power light was blinking on and off with a green light. I pushed the power button...

Hello; This problem is likely caused by bad inverter board(s). I think there are 2 on the left side on this model. If either inverter doesn't start, the microcomputer on the main board see's this and generates one "lamp error" . Once it counts 5 lamp errors, the screen will not light and led(s) will flash. These boards are about $100 each and no way to know which is bad. It can also be caused by a bad LCD panel ( cost more than the TV sold for). You can verify a lamp error problem by doing a "forced start" . The set must be unplugged. then"I think" Hold the channel up and volume down buttons on the set or VISa Versa, and plug in without releasing these buttons for several seconds. If the set makes a buzzing noise , the power supply board is bad. If the set comes on and stays or goes off this is the inverter and/ or LCD panel problem. John

No Picture on Toshiba 42RV530U

I had a similar problem to this yesterday. Tv is same Toshiba model as you mentioned about 4 months old. In my case, after the TV working perfectly following installation, the standby LED on the front (the one that is red on standby and green when on) went to a flashing orange (after switching on from standby) and the picture disappeared although the sound remained OK. I was unable to get any response from the setup or menu on the remote, otherwise I would have tried resetting the TV. Regardless of how much switching off/on (including disconnecting the powerlead and leaving for few minutes), disconnecting all peripherals, etc., nothing helped. I looked up Toshiba's web site and under support they basically suggest switching off the TV and restarting using the onset buttons (not the remote) and pressing the menu button (again the one on the set (not the remote) and if you could get the menu box to appear then reset to default settings. I tried this but the results were the same. I therefore thought the TV was defective. However, after much frustration I did the following (I think): 1) Disconnect everything from the TV 2) Powered up from the mains switch whilst keeping BOTH the startup and menu buttons on the side of the TV pressed down. The result in my case was that the standby led and one of the two beside it flashed green simultaneously. However, when the buttons were released, the TV started up the same (flashing LED orange and sound no picture). 3) Pretty well defeated at this point, after doing the procedure at (2) several times with the same results, I somehow thought of pressing the standby button on the remote either whilst the two buttons on the set were depressed or just after they were released. I am afraid I cannot remember which and cannot replicate the problem as I don't know what caused it in the first place. 4) The TV then started normally ( no reception as I had not aerial connected, etc.,) but I was able to gain access to the screen menu/setup buttons via the remote which were in French rather than English. However, after reconnecting everyrthing the TV has worked fine (obviously after resetting the language via the menu). I am sorry I cannot be more precise but I hope this might be of help to someone with a similar problem.
