You need the following drivers
chipset
audio
video
network
download them from Dell's website
log on to http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/index.aspx?~ck=ln&c=us&l=en&lnki=0&s=gen
click on service tag option
enter your system's service tag
your system's service tag located at the bottom pannel of your system, turn it upside down you will find a bar coded sticker which has a 7 digit alphanumeric number.
next page will give you all the drivers compatable with your system
be sure you choose operating system as windows XP
download all the drivers and remember to install them in the same order
chipset
audio
video

Hello, ive just bought a brand new motherboard (GS7610 ULTRA) and i have installed it into my case with all my components and when i go to start my computer up, it goes pasted the boot menu and then i get...

Are you trying to install this OS (Operating System) , or is it already installed on a hard drive?
If you are installing it, make sure you change the boot order to the optical drive (DVD drive). If it's already installed, was it installed with an OEM disk? If yes, then you might need a new Windows XP disc. This is because, when using an OEM disc, if you change the hard drive or motherboard, it doesn't really work.

disable the motherboards built-in ethernet adapter in BIOS and get an add-on ethernet card. it sounds like your ethernet card is damaged and its affecting the rest of the computer.

New Hard drive xp install

If your hard drive is SATA and your windows disk does not have SATA drivers on it it will not find the hard drive this is your problem
http://driverpacks.net/DriverPacks/
Go to the above site and download "driverpack mass storage" and slipstream into your windows CD.
I have done this with one windows install disk that could not find disk then it worked perfectly

Installing xp freezes

If it will only boot in safe mode it means you have a driver conflict.
This is only a suggestion but try fresh reinstalling windows, with only basic xp drivers then install other drivers one at a time rebooting each time you do until you come across the faulty one. remove it or check its for xp not vista research net for correct one

Gigabyte GA-MA790FX-DQ6 installation problems

Hi speedfreak44, during the installation of windows one of the drivers did not install correctly & windows registry is messed up.
The blue screen is a typical response from windows. Even though you're windows installed SP2, there are another 89+ updates for SP2. (A reinstall with-out a format is not advised).
Suggest you enter you're bios & disable ACPI. This one I know for sure will show up in windows device manager as a PCI device with no name. Try again to boot windows. If it still fails to enter in standard mode than a complete re-install will be required including a format. Personally I do not use windows XP pro/home w/SP2 CD to perform the format, (After receiving a blue screen).
I have found it is 98% better to use the software tools, downloaded from the Mfg's web site for you're hard drive. Use the bootable software (On a floppy or CD), to format you're hard drive. Most Mfg's hard drive software will allow you to change the cluster size up. Windows standard uses a 4kb cluster size & you loose far more hard drive space. With a 16kb you loose only the file allocation or FAT, which is normal.
Than using the Win XP CD/SP2 install windows, clean.
(No need to format).
When finished installing windows, load the Gigabyte driver CD & install the chipset & other CD drivers. Turn on windows firewall & update windows SP2. (ASAP), (Save SP3 update for later).
It is in the updates of windows to iron out software & hardware driver updates. Do not install you're antivirus software until windows has finished updating its self & you install any hardware updates also through windows update. (Continue to leave the ACPI disabled in bios until updating is complete).
You can enable ACPI, antivirus software & printer software all.

You will find some needed software will install during windows update. Like; Quad Core processor update. With either home edition or pro it is advised to install .Net framework updates 1 at a time & only restart when prompted by windows. Other wise click the refresh button & continue windows updating. (You can save the .Net framework updates for last if you wish). You're video card may need .Net framework 2.0 or better for installation.
I am hell bent on installing windows once & correctly the first time. I understand you want to get this baby up & running but take the time & run the hard drive tools/utilities. (It's worth it)!

Good Luck speedfreak44!
If I can help you further, feel free to post.
Suggestions & comments welcomed.

Please let me know if this got you're system running without the blue screens?
One last item. It's also worth checking the dates on the Gigabyte CD to Gigabyte's web site before installing other drivers. Including the chipset drivers. You want to install the newest drivers the first time around. Here is the link to you're Gigabyte GA-MA790FX-DQ6 motherboard main web site.

Gigabyte motherboard cd

You do not not need your motherboard CD to preform a format on your drive. Any windows CD. Win XP home, XP Pro, Win 2000 will format your hard drive. You can also use the hard drive's Mfg's utility disks & creat a bootable floppy disk or creat a bootable CDROM disk that will not only allow you to format the hard drive but also fun testing on the drive. You can even pick your cluster size & FAT file. Write down the name of your drive & model no#. Go to the Mfg's web site & download the utility software. Chances are Windows will have most of your boards drivers in it's data base. All you'll need to do is download from Gigabyte your missing drivers. You'll need you complete model no# & version no# if you can find it.

I can try and suggest you check the cables from you CD-ROM, any sort of damage the CD might have. Or then again, if your Hard Drive is SATA connected, then you'll need to load the SATA controler (F6 on the windows instalation) And, in last case, either upgrade your bios or try a different CD-ROM drive unit. But I would defenatly put my money on the cables.

XP install

Your motherboard could be the problem! But it could also be your memory, hard drive or the file system that resides on the hard drive! I don't think you would've gotten that far if you were having memory problems, but its still possible, however, we'll focus on it being the hard drive/filesystem! Boot to the XP CD, When your given the option to assign hard drive, select the hard drive you want to install to, and delete all the partitions! Then recreate partition(s)! (When you recreate partitions through XP install the first created is always a primary partition, subsequent partitions will be extended!! That means if a partition is already there a newly created partition will be in an extended partition) Now that the partition is created format it(don't quick format do a full format)! then install! If that ends up with an error or the same problem its probably your hard drive or motherboard!(If you go a spare hard drive you can try that to see if it goes beyond the reboot!!) try this first and see how it works out, get back to me if any questions. regards, babb
