I have a Mitsubishi HD1080 46 inch TV. The projection shows a concave picture and there are red and green outlines like a 3D image but without the glasses. This problem has come and gone in the past now it is just staying like that. I have removed the back panel, and checked to make sure all bulbs are lit but have not done anything to fix it. I tried to reset the convergence but that did not help. Any help you can give will be appreciated. Thanks.

I have the same problem. At first I thought the TV just needed some warming up because after a while it would resolve itself. Now, even after hours of being "resolved" it will occassionally revert back to the concave image! Have you gotten any feedback or resolution?

Picture looks concave and 3D. The convergence is wacky and can not re adjust

All projection TV sets have two very common problems. One is convergence ( 3D/Warped video or dead set) the other is CRT fluid ( Dull Video). Here are more details and solutions for both.

Common Problem #1) Convergence has gone out

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. In some cases the TV will also not show any video. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some pics of convergence problems.

Common Problem #2) CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

The picture is showing a double image and is distored.

The problem you are refering to is more than likely a convergence problem. The convergence circuit in your tv is controlled by an IC (integrated circuit) stk392-110 and it makes the 3 colors (red, blue, green) line up/converge together to create a clear picture. You'll know when this part needs to be replaced because the picture you see is 3d looking and possibly bowed on the top or bottom or on the sides in any or all 3 colors.

Hi there, this is what we call in the industry convergence board failure. this board regulate the rgb and keeps everything in order so the picture looks nice and clean. when this board starts to malfunction, what you are witnessing is usually the result. I suggest repairing this convergence board. this will fix the 3-d effect.
