Shortly after the warranty was up the first vertical yellow line appeared and now, about 1 months later another vertical line appeared. He's not happy to hear it only gets worse and apple won't do anything about it. Now there are 3 lines (ie) a blue vertical in the center and a blue and yellow left edge on the screen. I have been using the Mac for at 15 years. Please gives us a break on the cost to fix this problem. How can this problem be fixed. Jpope

The lines appearing on your LCD means it has a defect on the screen.

There are 3 types of pixel defect
1) dead pixel - pixel is always off
2) stuck pixel - pixel is always on
3) hot pixel - pixel is on but in red, green, blue or yellow, can also be a light black color

You can try to fix stuck or hot pixels but dead is dead.
1st method, flashing different colors rapidly:
JSScreenfix.com has a great tool. This is their free java applet or you can download it below.

2nd method, applying pressure to pixel:
Damp paper towel, Small stylus or dull pencil.

3rd method, tapping the pixel:
Pen with cover on or another small, blunt object.


If your laptop is still under warranty, get it replaced. If not you are looking at the most expensive part in a laptop to get replaced. (LCD screens on laptop is roughly equivalent to 40-60% of the total laptop cost

Has Bad LCD Panel hope its under warranty.

I am sorry Sir, the display panel is bad. If you purchased it new, it should under factory's warranty. Please call Proscan for a warranty repair.

Try connecting an external monitor to the Dell Inspiron 9300 and see if the vertical line is also present on the monitor. If the monitor display is fine, then your laptop’s LCD display panel is defective. If the monitor also displays the vertical line, then your problem is with either the video card or motherboard located inside your laptop.
Not sure if the Compaq Presario has an external monitor plug, but if it does the above procedure can be applied to that one as well.

Had this same issue on right side of 52" about 1 inch from side but had 3 vertical lines that disappeared after 40 minutes. Have Samsung LNT5265FX/XXA and about 16 months old. LCD Panel itself had to be replaced to fix it, fortunately had extended service plan

Sounds like pixel problems, this could be a bad panel or board inside tv. I would contact manufacturer and see if they have policy with bad pixel panel. Even with out of warranty try anyways.

Sometimes if the resolution is set too high, white lines will appear.
