You may need to re exicite the generator.take a small 12 volt battery, the kind you use in a 12 volt flashlight make sure it is fully charged.attach a wire to each prong on the battery making sure they dont touch.now remove the back of the generator where your alternotor is and unplug all of the wires even the capacitor wires.now start the generator and take your battery with the two wires and at the same time touch those wires to the capacitor wires for no longer than 1 to 1.5 seconds. you will see a small flash and hear the generator draw down slightly.dont worry its ok.that whats supposed to happen.now reconnect all of your wires and start your generator.its a 50/50 chance this will work but it has worked before.your just re magnetizing the field.if it doesn't work you may need a new stator buts thats where you end up spending money so try this first.
If your engine is running ok then adjust the speed control screw, I had a honda generator that lost it's output voltage until i increased the engine running speed screw, i guess there must be some kind of speed sensor!!, i hope this is usefull. COLIN
Take off the alternator end plate, and unhook the AVR/Capacitor. Run the machine and use a multimeter. BE CAREFUL NOT to get clothing or fingers caught in the alternator!
You should get 5v from each of the 2 stator windings (and brushes if on this model). If you do not get this then your alternator has blown, and you will need to replace the stator/rotor.
If you do get the 5v then it will be either your AVR or a connection/switch behind the control panel. If you need parts tryhttp://www.GeneratorGuru.com
