I just purchased a Cannon DC320 and when I put in a DVD-RW disc it says it is automatically supposed to bring up the screen to intialize the disc, but it doesn't and then it says it can't recognize the disc. Help.

You can use any type of mini dvd's aside from discs that are labelled as RAM discs. As well you won't be able to use anything branded by Sony, any other form of generic disc will work in your camcorder, you might have to format the disc before use but the camcorder will let you know when you power on your device after inserting the disc.
The following formats will work though +R, -R, +RW, -RW.
make sure that "plus rw" is allowed to be used (dvd+rw). My DC330 requires "minus rw" (dvd-rw).
(You'd think the gurus would differentiate their specs better, no?)
Also, I just learned today that the charger needs to be plugged into to be able to finalize a disk. Found the answer in a review on Amazon, rather than in the manual. That's an hour of my life I'd like to get back.
DVD-R discs can be used with no preparation, but a DVD-RW must be initialised before it can be used for the first time.
You may also have to initialise a DVD-RW if you get the message "UNABLE TO RECOGNIZE THE RECORDING MODE OF THE DISC" .
Also, make sure you always use DVD "minus" format discs - the DC210 will not work with any DVD "plus" format discs.
When you initialise the disc you will be asked to chose between Video mode and VR mode. Most DVD players will play a Video mode disc, but a VR mode disc can be edited with the camcorder. My preference is Video mode - I can then play on a DVD player and edit on a PC.
