Question about Toshiba Satellite M45-S331 Notebook

Continuous freeze even after using the recovery and application drivers dvd

The little strip of plastic covering of my cd/dvd drive broke and so I removed it and this little strip of metal is poking out. After using like that for about 4 weeks,-I started experiencing a freeze or lock. The cursor will just hang. In a state of panic, I used the Toshiba recovery cd to wipe and bring the laptop to its original state. Prior to doing that I noticed that the dvd drive was not regitering the cd and dvd anymore. athe message would be 'insert disk in D'.- Well, my point is all my efforts hasn't stop the cursor from freezing. Each time I start the laptop, I will have to leave the dvd door opened to prevent instant freeze, but that will only last for untill I clicked on say the control panel button. It freezes again even with the dvd door left open. Please help.

Sounds like spyware. Spyware can do strange things. Someone else had a similar problem to yuor and this fixed it. Unless you reformatted your hard drive and re-installed your O.S. then you did not really solve the problem with your O.S. freeze problem. As far as the CD-Rom, lets do one thing at a time.
I can't fix this for you, but if I helped you get it fixed, please rate it as a fixya not a helpful rating. These ratings let me be allowed to help you and others in the future.

Turn the system restore off. System restore keeps everything in restore. Meaning......... If you have spyware or a virus, it will stay in your system. Run Spybot S&D (This program is free and is better than using msconfig as long as you go through the settings and change everything to the highest settings.) Then do the same with Adaware 2008 (sounds stupid to use 2 things for spyware, but one catches what the other one does not.). I have links on my website (tandnfamilyelectronics-online.com). These links go directly to the download so you will not get the run around. You would do good to try a program called Window Washer (http://www.download.com/Free-Internet-Window-Washer/3000-2144_4-10436825.html?cdlPid=10731707). This is a great program that completely cleans anything in your computer that you do not need. It will not clean out anything that you have to have. I have used this for years to clean out my customers computers and have cleaned as much as 3 gigs of trash out. If you contact me I will give you some tools that I have for free that will do a great job on your computer. I have them ready to download and I will give you the link. (dean@tandnfamilyelectronics-online.com)

Send me the complete specs of your system and I can help you more. I hope that this helps you. There is no reason the really buy a program for spyware when there are free things to use that work great. Free AVG is a great Antivirus and yes it is also free. It will check your e-mail coming and going. It will also let your friends now that the E-mail does not have a virus. It also has a spyware program that is free. This day and time with all of the spyware out on the net you can never have too many programs for spyware. I would not run all of them at the same time though. Make sure that you do not use your computer during any scan. Defrag is also something to do after you do everything else. Some people will tell you that should not reload your computer. If nothing seems to work then sometimes that is the only good way to get it repaired right. Most of the programs that come pre-installed on a store bought computer is useless and most are even trail software that causes problems when they expire. Let me know if this helps at all. Please rate me if it helps.

I had to wipe and recover my toshiba satellite L350d resulting in now being unable to use my webcam. i was thinking that the drivers werent on my recovery disks. i dont know anyhelp would be much...

You should have created an "Applications and Drivers" disk along with with recovery disks. After your computer is started and you are at your desktop, put that disk in your CD or DVD drive and allow it to come up. Then browse to the webcam driver and double click on it and follow the prompts.

If the DVD drive doesn't automatically show the disk go into "my Computer" or "Computer", right click on the DVD drive and select "open" or "explore".

If you didn't make an "Applications and Drivers" disk, from start go into "All Programs" and look under "Toshiba" or "Toshiba Utilities" until you find the "Create Recovery Disk" wizard, then click on that and look for "Applications and Drivers", then follow it out.

Gateway laptop reset

Gateway Direct systems went "media-less" back in September 2004. In the event of a system crash users could either 1) restore their systems from the Recovery Partition OR 2) from the backup media that they were prompted to create on first power-up -- which would provide them with up to 5 blank CD-R discs depending on their system's configuration.

On the factory load of the hard drive, the recovery partition will not contain operating system files. It only contains application and driver files.
The first time the recovery partition is used, it prompts the user to insert their System Recovery CD/DVD to copy files from the CD to the recovery partition.
The Drivers and Applications CD is not bootable and does not contain Operating System files.
The System Recovery CD/DVD is bootable but does not contain any application or driver files.
If the end-user erases the hard drive and restores the computer using the System Recovery CD/DVD and an Applications and Drivers CD, the recovery partition is not recreated.

This means that you will need the operating system restore disc FIRST then the recovery partition will work for you

Dvd drive of my hp dv2000 is not working. it does not read dvd or a CD, and message pops up insert a CD or DVD. drivers are updated. in its hardware config. it says drive cannot be started. do need to...

There is a screw (tiny machine screw) that holds the entire DVD/CD assembly in place. Usually this screw is located by looking on the bottom of the laptop and has a little picture of a cd embossed in the plastic. Sometimes this screw is under a "lid" such as the cover for the RAM or HDD, depending on how your laptop is engineereed.

Find this screw, unscrew it, set it aside and them pull entire cd/dvd assembly from computer. Replace the cd/dvd drive into the slot you pulled it out firmly and quickly.

Turn on and test reading of CD/DVD.

If love is found, replace screw holding asembly, etc.
If no love, replace CD/DVD drive.

    Other sources of love:

    correct cd/dvd driver.
    remove/replace cd/dvd driver
    update cd/dvd driver
