Ruud a/c my outside a/c unit (compressor, capacitor, motor) won't come on. I took cover off and capacitor was burnt up. I replaced it but it still won't come on. Is there a fuse out in the unit that could have blown as well?

My RUUD UAKB outside unit will not come on. The inside unit comes on and just blows hot air.

Normally there is no fuse in the unit. May have a fuse in the disconnect near the unit. Does the compressor make any noise of any type at all? Is the contactor pulling in when the system is calling for cooling?

It's a little unusual to have a bad capacitor described as burnt up? Was the unit hit by lightning. I would be sure to establish what caused the initial failure before i tried to power up again. After you've done that, establish whether or not you have the 24v you need to close the compressor relay then backtrack from the compressor until you find where those 220v's are hiding- lol. GL!

Unit not blowing cold air. Outside compressor and fan not running. Outside computer board has flashing red light.

Onboard diagnostic indicates 24VAC is still being supplied from the furnace.....should be a code on the inner cover or available online. Start with 220V service to the condensing unit once the diagnostic is resolved.

My 4 year old Ruud home a/c compressor stopped working. inside fan blows but compressor won't turn on...what can I do prior to calling the gas company who installed the unit...

Ruud parts warranty from factory is 5 years, the capacitor has possible gone out, it will be in the contol compartment on the out side unit and is a dual run capacitor that controls the compressor and fan motor. Recommend if capacitor is bad to replace entire capacitor. As Stated above the parts are under warranty if under five years old. To verify age the date code is in the serial number after the "F" **** week/year of manufacture. Also outside unit has independent power supply so check fuses if any and circuit breaker.

We replaced the compacitor, when you turn the control on inside the outside unit clicks and starts to hum, you can hear the new comp running. The fan will not kick on. All of the wires are connected and...

You have to replace the capacitor whenever you replace a compressor. You may have a bad fan motor as well usually when capacitors go bad the motor isnt far behind. This unit will have a dual capacitor for the fan and the compressor and yes one side can go bad and the other side be good. Replace the capacitor and let me know

Outside fan doesn't work. Inside it sounds like it works - there is a fan sound - but no cool air What part is broke?

If your compressor kicks on outside but the fan on top doesnt you need to ck the capacitor to the fan and the wiring to each. There is a schematic inside the elect panel on the outside unit it will give you an idea where the capacitor is it will be a silver or grey metal device with three wires coming out of it or you will have one small and one larger one with two wires coming out of each. the fan runs off a 5uf capacitor and the compressor a 35 uf capacitor. The most obviouse thing will be burnt or melted wires inside the elect panel when a capacitor goes bad it usually takes wiring with it. If wiring looks good buy a new motor and replace the capacitor at the same time. take the elect motor with you so it can be matched up.

My downstairs Ruud AC will not blow any cold air. The fan in the outside unit does run.

Is the compressor running in the outside unit? If it is then check the capacitor for the fan and replace if necessary. If it's good then check the fan motor. If the compressor is not running also, check the circuit breakers or fuses and the contactor in the outside unit. Let me know what you find or if this helps, please rate it.

Outside unit fan runs briefltly compressor no go inside unit fan runs but no hot or cold air

Chances are you have a bad capacitor in outside unit. Take off cover to wiring. It is a oval silver cylinder. See if it is swollen or oily. If so replace, Also check for burnt wires on capacitor or contactor. Russ

Fan isn't turning

turn the power off, take the cover off the top and try to spin it. If it spins hard then it was the motor. If it spins easy the the capacitor is probably bad which
would cause the fan to go bad.

Usually this can be a dual capacitor which also controls the compressor. Sometimes just replacing
the capcitor can do the trick, if not then the worst
is that you will have to replace the motor and still use the new capacitor

New outside compressor 4 ton Ruud 13 seer unit.

Sounds like a compressor needs to be replaced. You will need a service tech to make sure of it. Sometimes the compressor can work for a long time that way. Check your warranty. Usually compressors will have longer warranty on it.

Hey, there. So, you have a hum outside, is your fan motor running outside? Does the compressor run and stay on, it is louder than the fan motor. The two pipes coming from the unit, the small one should be warm, the big one should be cold. Let me know what you got
