Pioneer DVD-RW dVR-K17LF not burning or reading DVD's

My pioneer DVD-RW dVR-K17LF is not recognizing or burning DVD's. But works fine with CD-R and CD-RW It still doesnt work after removing the upperfilters and lowerfilters from the registry. I have windows xp.what seems to be the problem? Please Tosh Satellite P205-S6237 DVD-RW DVR-K17LF - uninstalled driver before I looked for a replacement or update...cannot find one anywhere. Not sure the problem IS software...from all the complaints, looks like the drive is a turkey?

Initially, the drive refused to work on RW/R DVDs but would play music; then quit responding altogether.

NOW, cannot find a driver to install - at all!

1. If the error message says 'cannot start', is the problem more likely mechanical?

2. WHERE can I download a driver for this 'turkey', please?

Thank you much! Marty

This is a brand new device I am assuming correct and it never worked before? I would first try removing it and cleaning the lens and then reinstalling it. For the drivers, I will take a look for them or Pioneer should be able to either send them to you or give you a link for downloading them.

    Also, have you tried a system restore if this used to work, you can do this in the control panel under Performance and Maintenance but please let me know how long you have had this and when this started happening

    I am unable to find a driver so contact Pioneer about this and they should be able to get one. Try the system restore first like I suggested and let me know how that goes. Please keep me updated on this situation with what you have tried and I will work with you until we get this fixed.

    Ok here is a solution you can try first im still looking for the drivers..

    1.Open up the REGISTRY EDITOR, by typing regedit in the RUN box (XP)

    2.Click File , Export , type a filename that is easy for you to remember, after that browse to the any of your folder, and click Save. In case your registry corrupted, u can always browse back to the folder where u save this registry, and double click on it

    3.Then, click the plus sign ( + ) next to the following items in the list:
    *HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
    * SYSTEM
    * CurrentControlSet
    * Control
    * Class

    4.Select 4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318 . Make sure you have selected this exact key name. Select the LowerFilters value on the right pane and press the Delete key. Confirm the deletion by clicking Yes. Try to look for UpperFilters as well on the right pane. Delete the string UpperFilters as well.

    5. Delete all other UpperFilter and LowerFilter values within the 4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318 key if they exist. Then, close the registry editor and restart the computer. Your cd/dvd drive should now be recognized by Windows.

    Goodluck..

I have a Pioneer dvd recorder that had 2 capacitors blow; a 10V 3300uf and a 10V 1000 uf. I replaced them and the recorder powered up fine but now it doesn't recognize if a disc is in it and reads "No...

Check for more damaged Capacitors and check out the resistors and diodes around the damaged caps which you replaced. Check the traces on the circuit board and look for cold solder joints bridges and such. Also... Did you make sure you got your polarity correct on your caps?

After you have burned the disc it will require Finalizing.
This is done by the same machine.

Pioneer dvr player will not reconize disk when inserted in player...will not read it..

I bought some off brand rw-dvd's and the Pioneer would not recogzine them. The Maxell and the Sony work great. No problem with the r-dvd's.

Mine quit working completely, it keep opening and shutting itself and this morning it was opened when I got up and when I closed it the dvd hung up in it. This is the second time for the hangup and I had to take it apart to get the dvd out both time. This time it stopped working altogether. It just says Load across the front.

Hope this helps you.
