Question about Maytag Legacy Series Top Load Washer

1 Answer

Legacy leaked on floor and subsequently ruined gararge ceiling. I put a wash in yesterday, filled it shut it off and left it soaking. I returned home from my errands three hours later to an 3/4 empty SS wash tub and a water damaged garage ceiling, double layered dry wall. How to I verify cause of leak? ???Wash tub seal? Hoses or pumps? I have heard the usual stories of too soft a floor for the unbalanced spin walking. My house has 2x12 floor joists 16 in on center, My Maytag will be four years old this october! So much for durable goods these days.

Thank you for the tip. I experimented with a small wash load with repair panel removed and a flood light. I found out it was not a main seal! The drain hose had some slack in it and had rubbed up against the rear auto level bar (sharp metal bar!) and a small perforation developed. I repaired the hose and the leak. To prevent the same thing from happening to the replaccement hose I cut the old hose and created a shroud for the new hose near the sharp metal points. Many thanks to everyone at Fixya for your help.

The leak was severe and on removing the hose from the drum to the pump there was a perforation of the tube caused by rubbing of the plastic tube on the metal sub frame. I will try the "shroud solution but maybe Maytag would enlarge the sub-frame perforation to prevent this problem.

Its most likely the tub seal at the bottom, check and see if the area inside is wet in the middle. You will need to remove the outer panels to do this. It doesn't sound like anything else if the water was left to sit so a replacement of the seals around the center shaft should fix this problem. Let me know if you have any questions about doing this and I would be happy to help.

Why would washer leak water

My wife developed a new idea about filling her toploader; first fill with water, then put the dirty washing in. No surprise, the dirties displaced the water which then spilled out on the floor. If you put the dirties in first it works the way it should. If this is not your problem you need to look for the water level sensor which is basically a tube sticking down into the water, most often in the back left corner. This could be blocked at the bottom with detritus from washables or, not very likely, scale. You may also have a defective sensor and need to replace it.
Good luck.

My air conditioner's bucket is overflowing with water and leaking all through the ceiling onto our floor, ruining the paint on the walls. Any solutions?

I assume you have a unit in the attic as described condensate leaking from ceiling and down the walls etc.
What is not normal is a bucket to contain the condensate, there should be 2 lines a primary from the evap coil and a secondary preferably from a secondary drain pan resting underneath your unit. A bucket will never work in this capacity.

My washer is keaking water on the front left side. I think when its draining. i had the new style top put on that stops water from spilling on to the floor when filling

check that your drain hose is tight pull machine away from wall and see if it leaks there during drain cycle if it is leaking here tighten connection/Also check that it is tight at the faucets as well

Whirlpool duet washer fills with water when not running

one of the control valves (hot or cold) is not closing the water supply, most likely leaking so the electronics are good. one of the valves needs replacing, but if you dont want to spend the money just shut the water supply off at the water supply taps.
