Magnavox: 37MF231D/331D/321D Haven't even had this TV for 2 yrs. When it gets turned off it will not turn back on. Keeps turning itself off. In the past have been able to play with for an hour or so to get it back on but now will not come back on. Green blinks for a while then goes off.

Like Kellijack our magnavox: 37MF231D/331D/321D suffers from the same problem. When the set is turned off and left off for a long period of time we press the power on button and wait while the green power light flickers and acts as if the tv is looking for a signal and finally the light goes out. We then hit the power on button again and the period of time that the green light flickers is only 5 to 10 seconds as conpared to the initial power on flicker being upwards of 10 minutes. After the third or fourth time pressing the power on button the tv comes on and plays just fine. If we turn the TV off and then back on it comes on without problem. The problem only seems to occur when the TV is left off for extended periods of time.

Exact same issue...takes minimum 3 hits of power button to keep green light on and start playing. TV less than 18 months old. Seems to be a flaw in this model, maybe others too.

I have a 37MF231D same problem. needing to turn it on and off at least 4 times before it comes on

I have the same problem - if the tv is turned off for a long period of time it takes a couple presses of the button before the green light stays on and the tv turns on.

  • mvscag Feb 21, 2009

Well folks, I hate to break it to you, but that's just the beginning...pretty soon it will take 45 minutes to an hour to turn on...then it won't turn on at all...not sure what to do, except use any and all Magnavox items as kindling!!!! Just another terribly unreliable product I feel suckered into buying!!!! Good Luck!

Typical junk from China and no customer support, or service solutions, except find and replace the bad capacitor on the power supply board. What cap and which board is it? Bought the tv August 06 and of course the extra warranty, so it takes a dump 6 months after it expires. $1700 bucks and now it's junk? Hate to say it guys but this is the way China makes money with dumb Americans like us. Buy it cheap every two years instead of once every 10 for a few bucks more. I see thousands of posts stating the same problem with power up on the 37 inch tv's yet Philips wont acknowledge the massive problem or help the service center guys by not sending the $4 part! BTW, the repair is $300 plus.

Same thing, and as time goes on the warm up time gets longer-we are up to 35 minutes.

    Very frustrating!

  • woodallthoma Apr 17, 2009

Guys, same problem here. Mine is about 18 mos old. Occasionally, I get nothing. Have to unplug and replug until the green light will do anything. Then, if I'm lucky, the screen flashes on and off. Eventually, after I am ready to throw the thing in the trash, it starts working and performs flawlessly until the next time I turn it off. For me, doesn't matter if it's off for a long period of time or not, it still struggles to turn on. I hate the thing and will never buy Magnavox again. My fault for trying to save a buck.

I have the same problem! Lucky for me it just started to manifest itself last week. Turn it off and it takes forever to turn back on! Would it be worth the hassle and expense to pay $300 plus to get it fixed? It has a beautiful picture when it's working. How about the idea of leaving this thing on 2-4-7 until it finally quits? Thanks Magnavox...thats the last buck you'll get from me!

Calm down Calm down. The problem is quite simple. You need to change one maybe two capacitors. Upon removing back cover. Look to the left, after removing foil tape, remove screws and flipover the board. The first cap to go down may have abulge on top or black tar oozing out the top. It is a 25volt 2200mf cap gone bad. Replace it. Second, sometimes and just sometimes next to thatone is 35volt 1200mf cap goes bad......remember just sometimes. You may have to replace it as well.

Let me remind you. If you do decide to repair and replace your capacitor or capacitors use the 105 degree temperture cap. They are great under a load and most important be sure the polarity is correct before installing. Long lead is positive the short lead is negative. Get some popcorn and a bottle of pop and enjoy the movie.!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have no idea what you are talking about and I wish I did because this is driving me crazy on my TV. What does a capacitor look like? What tools would I need? Where do I get a capacitor?

I just went and bought 2 1000mf 35v caps to replace the 2 that were bulging next to the 2200mf 25v that had popped it's top, oozing the black ****. I went everywhere looking for the replacement. I couldn't find one so I went up to a 3300mf 35v. (never go lower... EVER).
I just buttoned the set up, plugged in everything and Im back in business!!!!
SOLUTION #2 was the ticket and saved me God knows how much money. The cost to fix my set using solution #2 was $5.28 including tax.
Thank you!

I've had this LCD panel for over two years and fortunately have not had any trouble, but I found a software / firmware update on Magnavox's web site and upgraded using that. This is something new to many people, since the old style CRT TVs did not require this. You can use a USB flash drive to perform the update.

Also make sure all lines (Cable, Power) are protected with a high-end surge protector.

Solution #2 worked for me on my power supply, the only capacitor that I had to replace was the 25 v 2200mf one. It was obvious because the top of it was separated open with black showing.

The capacitors have a thick soild line on the - negative teminal side. Thanks maatmartin7 for the fix.

Philips Magnavox 32MT3305 keeps shutting off with relay clicking. The green power light stays on but the picture and sound go out right after the orange status bar goes away. If the channel up or down...

the relay is the safety protective device..sometimes a defective component or something. maybe an overloaded power supply might caused this before any thing could gets worst..the relay will shut the unit..

Power board in magnavox 37MF231D blows fuse right away. Caps are good on board and fuse still goes when disconnected from TV.

Then you have a shorted regulator circuit. the best bet is to replace the power supply board itself. The part number is 313815864961. Please take a few moments to rate my answer, Thank you.

Magnavox 19" TV shuts itself off.....won't stay on

I had a similar problem with my Phillips 42 in. LCD HD TV.

Here's the problem. The Power Supply Board. I opened my TV up(warranty was up of course) and found several bad capacitors. Phillips and several other companies were sold capacitors that although were highly rated failed within 5 years because of a lack of preservatives. All sorts of electronic equipment is now being effected due to these defective capacitors.
1. Take it in and have it fixed
2. Open it up, check the board for faulty capacitors(bulged or leaking) Buy a new Power supply board and install it.
3. Remove PSB, remove faulty capacitors and replace with compatible new ones.

Hope this helps

TV Turning on and off by its self

You have problems with a condenser that allow the power supply to maintan an acceptable level of voltage in order to keep the TV on. take to a tech to be fixed. unfortunatelly, this problem needs a tech to take measures in the circuitry to find the component that causes the problem.

Magnavox # 37MF231D

that depends on the value of the television and the cost of replacing the power supply and connections.
Most likely you have a short in your power supply or other connections causing the tv to protect itself by shutting down. You can check with our Repair Service lookup icon for a repair service near you.
Before you call them you may try unplugging your unit for 30 minutes or so and plugging it back in.
