J1 code on the XD100 series means that your toner cartridge is empty. You will need to order in a new one or have your existing cartridge refilled. Refills run about $60.00 and new ones are in the $100 to $125 range.

J1 is the toner cartridge. Needs to be replaced, printer will not print with a cartridge that is empty.
You can try resetting the Workcentre. Power on, hit "C" then the far left button back and forth 4 times, then enter 14 (like you were going to make 14 copies) hit print. Should clear the code. But if the cartridge is empty the code will return,
Hello sir; Behind the toner cartridge, there have a memory chip, need to replce, otherwise the machine not recognize, usually the chip come with cartridge, my suggestion is bring back to store replace another one.

Make sure you have the right code: J1 or J2.
one is for the drum and the other is for the ink.
Make sure the toner unit is for this model and not for a different model.
If the old modual is still available, check the connectors at the back and see if they are the same.
If anything else Call Xerox for repair. If the cartridge was bought through Xerox have your reciete available for warrenty.
If repairs still need to be made, A Xerox service call may be needed in order to fully repair the copier and warrenty the cartridge.
I have a XD100 Work Center with a L6 error code indication. After press "C" Clear (orange color button), followed by "Auto" (the most left small button) - exposure mode key; and "C" followed by "Auto" again, the copier starts to print and solved problem.
H4 is a power failure code. To reset the error please press in the following order:
CLR - AUTO - CLR - AUTO
(this puts the unit in tech mode).
Enter 14 (as if asking for 14 copies)
Your unit should reset itself and start working.
