Question about BenQ FP731 17" LCD Monitor

1 Answer

Extension cable good morning I had to move things around and bought a very pricey extension cable for my BenQ FP731. So I got things organized and when I booted up... hard to explain - I didn't change my accessibility options but the text looks "skinnier" and lighter. So I did some troubleshooting, removed the extension cable, plugged the monitor back in and the text was fine. Put the cable back on (and yes, all connections are tight), and the text became skinnier and lighter again. Am attaching two screenshots. Shot 1. shows my preferred text size and the fact that the text is too faint. Shot 2. shows how dark the "smaller" text SHOULD look like, but the text SIZE is now too big. Thank you for any help you might give. Hope I explained this clearly enough LOL, I'm a senior citizen. Bootsmom

hello Samir and thanks for your input BUT the problem is not the cable, because, after fiddling with my accessibility options, I can get the page to display properly on Firefox. I should have mentioned that my screenshots were taken on Internet Explorer (which I use most often).

As I mentioned in my original post it is an extension cable. I couldn't replaced the original cable with a longer one because the original cable is integrated into the monitor frame itself (hence not removable).

    again, thanks for your help.

Have you connected an extra cable as extension or Replaced the original cable with a Longer one?
In Either case the cable is to blame,Normally you should be using one single high quality cable from computer to Input of monitor. There is signal loss due to longer lengh or joint.
Hope this answers your question?

Where can I find instructions on replacing the backlight on benq fp731?

jsiwiec, Are you absolutly certain that the "cold-cathode-fluorescent-lamps" need replacing, or if the "switch-mode-power-supply"/"CCFL inverter supply" is not working and is in shutdown mode? CCFL's are not some kind of miniature version of those energy efficient screw-in new style, curlie-Q cfl light bulbs you buy at the local home-center!!! In any case here are some places to checkout first. , , ,, You do know that most times the problem is not the lamps. Did your LCD display have bright, crisp, colorful images displayed on the lcd panel 2- 3 days before black screen happened? How many TOTAL "ON" hours of use on this BenQ FP731 ? Monitor not showing anything

If it is still under warranty from Benq (3yrs), call them for a return. I have one (FP731) and did the same thing. There is an IC within the monitor that is bad. Pretty soon there will be nothing on the screen.
