I tried every single button, I pressed the reset - which worked for the time it took to "rebuild" the library - but it is STILL stuck on the same song (not playing it), and will not respond or turn off. After like half an hour it turned off by itself and when I turned it on again it did exactly the same as before. I plugged it into the computer, and the little green lightning bolt came on screen, but didn't blink as usual, and that's stuck there too now. The computer also will not detect it, so I can't use that Zen Recovery Tool. I didn't drop it, or get it wet, or get it hot. It's just... stuck.
Help meeeeee!!!! I've only had it for like a month, two maximum. (It's a Zen V 4GB btw.)

Then press and hold the play/puse button and turn it on simultaneously. The player should be in recovery mode. Scroll down and select format (all) and let it format. Then reload all of music back onto your player and it should work like new. Hope this helps!

My Zen locked when I turned it on. It wouldn't play the track the screen was on so I pressed the reset button and turned it on again. It was then still locked on the same track so I tried turning it off which then froze as it was shutting down. After another reset it went through the rebuild screen then locked again. I then used the above fix (pin in reset, then hold play and power switch down). Taking me into the kind of bios screen I formatted the contents. Then added my library again. It's now working fine.
This is the second Zen I've had because the first one had the same problem so I took it back without trying to fix it. Both times the problem occured when I had my Zen plugged into my car stereo auxiliary jack whilst switching the ignition on in my car. I can't understand why this would cause the problem but I'll avoid doing that in future.
hello guys sorry to hear your problems i have same problems too. Ok first plug ur zen player (mines V PLUS.. heheh) to ur pc then hold play button then keep pressing the reset botton until it turns on RECOVERY MODE then select YES to all (clean up, format, reload firmware) then download the RECOVRY TOOLS at creative site install it then plug ur zen player and run the recovery tools (cross ur finger) hopes it works mine a big smile hehehe email me at firstname.lastname@example.org if it works..Gud Luck guys
if it keeps on rebuilding the library the disk had a bad spot on it try going in to recover mode and do a clean if that doesn't work do a format if that doesn't work download the latest firmware if that doesn't fix you will need a new hard drive or flash drive.
I also had this issue and had tried ALL of these soutions with no success. I had just given up with this unit (as useful and functional as it was when it was alive) - after days and days of trying all these solutions and more when I thought I'd try one more recovery session before getting the sledgehammer out - I reset the unit with the paperclip/pin and held down (as difficult as it is) the Play / Return AND the center button all at the same time - and there it was finally - the administration menu. I formatted, cleared, etc.. and then used the ZEN firmware upgrade process (you can download this from Creative if you need the firmware but chances are if you're here in this group you are just short of becoming a jr. Creative Technical support person). I am now back in business - but how long do I really have? We'll see......
ok, first you will need to let it rebuild as far as it will go without interuption. Then once it gets stuck... take a a clothes pin or a real slim piece that will fit into the reset hole. The reset button is near where you would normally plug it in for data transfer or power supply. Now your player will restart, you shouldn't lose any infomation at all by doing this. After you do this, you need to try and press the power button so you can power the system down. If you are able to power the system down, that is good... then after it is off, you will need to plug it into your computer to charge... or plug in your wall charger in order to charge the system. Once plugged in... leave on charge over night. The next day... unplug the system from the power supply. Try to let it sit for a few moments before you do anything to it...
After letting it sit, try powering it on...
If it starts to try to rebuild the library, then while it is doing so, lay it on a desk and do not move it until done. After that... if it comes on as normal... it is fixed.
