Question about Kenmore 16602 / 16604 / 16609 Built-in Dishwasher

Object went into drain

A piece of a wooden chopstick went into the dishwasher drain. Now when it runs I can hear it in there and it sounds really bad. I tried to remove the cover from the inside of the washer but the last piece does not seem to be able to be removed.

is there a way to get to the broken peice? Maybe from the underside?

Not from underneath. You have to remove each piece 1 at a time untill you reach the food shredder blade area.Although some parts are looking stuck, just look at the piece carefully that you are removing and pull it off. please rate this !!! Thank You!!

Kenmore dishwasher model 665 has gotten extremely loud. Functions fine. Never loud like this before. What could be wrong?

It could be that something (some foreign object like a piece of glass or a seed or something) has gotten into the main pump or the drain pump; or else your main pump bearings have gone bad from age and use.

My dishwasher turns on and all the lights work. It sounds like it's filling up with water, but it never actually runs through any of the cycles. If I leave it running for a while it will continue to...

It's worth repairing.

Check water level switch inside the machine.
Check the inlet solenoid for proper operation. It might have got stuck and remain
in open condition always. You can reach this area by opening the back door of the machine. give a gentle tap with a wooden piece on the valve , it may return to the closed position.

Clean all the inlet and drain areas of the machine.

About thirty minutes into the dishwasher running it starts to make a heavy woo, woo, woo sound, almost like a grind. It is only for about two sections of the time and then it stops and sounds normal...

The sounds it is making most possibly are coming from the drain cycle. It is probably finished with the prewash, or the first cycle (depending on what cycle you use). You may have some foreign object down inside the impeller which is why you hear it more now. Often times, a glass may get broken and a small piece gets down inside the pump, or we have seen alot of different things (from cherry pits, to chicken bones). At any rate, you should be able to remove the lower screen inside your dishwasher to a recessed area. You can try and see if you find any objects down inside there and if so, remove them, then replace the screen. If the noise continues, the foreign object may flush itself out eventually. If it gets worse, or continues without any relief, you may need to have a service person come out and take your pump apart to get the foreign object.

The dishwasher only makes a humming noise when I try to turn it on. What's wrong?

Sounds like the pump (not the drain pump) is not able to run. Perhaps something went into it and is jamming the pump. (bones, small pieces of glass, etc).

My dishwasher has water going in to it and it drains but it's not making it to the arms, my dishes are still bone dry after all cycles even pre rinse.

it appears ur wash motor is not running.try this-start the unit and let it run for 2 min( this is the water fill period) and after 2 mins u should hear motor running and water splashing sound.u can even open the door and look for water falling from the spray arms.but after 2 mins if u hear only a humming sound and no water splash sound then motor is bad and needs to be chgd.drain motor is seperate for draining the water.

Washer goes through wash cycle then quits

Well, it could be a timer, but it could also be something easier and cheaper...

There is a sensor that detects whether or not the lid is closed.

If that sensor is maladjusted or loose the washer will "think" that the door is open and it'll stop and sit until the door is closed.

So, look at the lid.... It will likely have a protrusion that will stick through the top of the washer. If you find a hole/protrusion, you could try looking with a flashlight to see what might be going on. You could also stick an object into the hole to see if you can manually activate the sensor, and therefore the washer.

Now I gotta say -- if you put something into the hole to activate the sensor, DON'T USE ANYTHING THAT CONDUCTS ELECTRICITY.

I keep a set of wooden chopsticks around the house at all times. First the cat likes to play with them, and second they come in handy for tasks such as this one.

If you determine that the sensor is the problem, you still need to fix or adjust it, or at least you can tell the repairman that you have diagnosed the problem -- and he won't be able to sell you a $250 dollar timer.

good luck

BTW, if you decide to get a set of chopsticks for household use, and if you have a cat, I'd recommend USED chopsticks. First, you'll get a good Chinese meal, and I've found the cat likes used chopsticks better than new ones.

Change alternator on 2003 chevy impala

here is a trick. While it is running, use a yardstick or wooden broom hande, and place it on the casting of the alternator or object you suspect is growling. You can hear the bad bearing amplified through the wood if you put your ear to it. It is a great way to pin point bad bearing noise

Whirlpool Sound During Drain

Yes, you can pull one of the pump's leads to find whether the noise comes from the pump. You should unplug machine's power cable first and be sure that the disconnected wire is isolated. Before replacing the pump look that it clean from any foreign object/ Good luck!

Dishwasher will not drain water out

if plumbed in under the sink, check the spigot the drain hose goes to is not blocked - a common problem. if on drain you should be able to hear the drain pump working. if you hear a faint humming noise instead, then there is probably a foreign object stuck in pump. also check for blockage in the drain hose
